School or office Uniforms Do you remember in school we use to wear uniform and I think most of us would still wear it in their offices and on their professional field. I remember in my school I used to wear a dark cream color shirt and blue pant. And as I grown up and start to go to college we had blazer with white shirt, blue pant and tie. Our sir used to tell use importance of uniform and why should we wear and respect it. They used to tell, it is an identity of our college that is why you should not wear it after you go to home and should not roam here and there. I agree, uniform is really important because it's an identity of school and our work place and most importantly it does not separate anyone from each other as everyone wear same cloth it would be hard to recognize economic status and condition of the student or employee. Another point I would like to mentioned that is distraction and attraction if some one wears weird, fashionable or dark color clothes then it is natural that everyone get attract or distract because of that person that is why uniform is important in work place and school. Some professional uniforms has importance like Chef uniform is white that is why we can easily recognize whether it's dirty or not and it has pockets to put knives and other things same with the case of fire extinguisher who wear thick clothes which prevent their skin from fire et cetera. uniforms can get boring something because we need to wash and wear them daily and there would be no uniqueness in it. It can be an added expenditure because we need to buy a separate dress which we can't wear anytime. We can wear same clothes in school and some working place then why we should need to buy other. What do you think about it? Do you remember your uniform color and pattern in school and office?

Yes, wearing fashionable clothes and not uniforms can be distracting. But people are individuals, not cattle. I think that a little distraction is a good thing. I never wore any type of uniform. I wore my school colors when at certain events but that is all.

And I don't agree with most of that. Economic status is demeaning for others. How awful and just one more reason why I disagree with this practice. Like some are better than other. And in school too. That is really sad.

? Uniform carries a identity of school. Uniform means equity we cannot come to know who belongs to which economic status by uniform but we can easily come to know by cloth quality and types of clothes anyone wearing I think that is why uniform should be compulsory in school and colleges. Fashionable clothes are distraction and convey economic and social status of person that is why fashionable clothes should be avoided in school and colleges. Why didn’t you wear uniform at school or college?

I would like to know, what do you disagree and and why? if I know there is a imbalance between society and that is reality and we should accept it. if I am not wrong you meant that. if yes, then I think, people who belong to rich economic status would like to wear good clothes because they can do that but people who cannot do that may feel sad and not confident about their abilities.

My schooldays ended 50 years back. In those days Matriculation or SSC was in the 11th standard or class. Till the 9th standard we had a uniform of navy blue shorts and a white shirt. However for the 10th and 11th class we switched over to white shirt and full white trousers. We were very proud of this uniform because it made us feel that we had become adults.but there was no uniform in our college and we could wear whatever we wanted to. In those days T- shirts had not yet come into fashion, so we wore our shirts either tucked into our trousers or we wore bush shirts. However some of my classmates still wore half pants. Since i had studied in a boys only school we felt awkward to wear shorts in college because there were girls in our class.Yes, uniforms do give you a sense of belonging to your school or college and also inculcates discipline.

Hi, veejay ji. Navy blue shirt and white shirt is a very common uniform most of the Indian school has this uniform and in villages this is common uniform. I belong to Maharashtra and I have seen this uniform in many schools in villages. Most of the school present in villages do not force or have compulsion of uniform. I have seen children wearing anything and whatever they want to wear in villages. As we go older we cannot wear old and short clothes and that is why we need to change our clothes and shorts doesn’t suite on elders that is why I guess we change our uniform in college and as we grow up. I also remember after 7th we used to wear long pants and full shirt. In college I used to wear blazer and on Saturday we could wear T shirt. Can you share more about what do you think about uniform. Do you think uniform should be mandatory?

As you have written in your post wearing a uniform inculcates a sense of uniformity and discipline. It also removes the stigma of caste barriers and also the differences between rich and poor.Uniforms are particularly important in the defense and services sectors like army, navy, air force, scouts, NDA cadets etc.Services like fire brigade, municipal workers, nurses, doctors, advocates, police etc all wear uniforms which depict their professions and also help in identifying them.

Yes, uniform is a sense of uniformity and discipline. and one thing I would like to mention again and share my experience. few days ago I visited mall there I could not found any sales person because no one was wearing uniform of that mall that time I realize that uniform is also identity of person because we can easily catch or come to know that this person is here to help us or in service for us like we see in restaurants and other places. whenever we go to restaurant we can easily come to know who is waiter, who is manager, who is housekeeper in bank we can easily come to know who is security guard and other employees by their Uniforms.

I understand where you are coming from. When I was in school, I was sooooo tired to wear uniforms - day-in and day-out and cannot wait for me to go to the business world and try my hands on classy business clothes. Now that I'm working in a company that don't have uniform, I'm having difficulty just coming up with decent clothes to wear. Some employees failed to see how lucky they are that they have uniforms since more money can be saved to purchase more important things than clothes for work.

Yes, in my country where we have uniforms in schools and colleges. I am working in a company and we don't have any uniform. I understand your point we need to think about what to wear on day to day basis. I really like to wear new clothes but Its not possible to wear casual clothes everyday.

Hi, I am 55 years old. Your discussion reminds me my school time. I had white shirt and grey pant as a school uniform. Our school is simple. so there was no separate uniform for P.T. When I was working in the company we have blue shirt and navy blue pant as uniform. There is no discrimination in higher and lower posts.
