Do you ever read the hotel reviews on Trip advisor or similar sites before you decide where you want to stay? Do the reviews help you pick the right hotel or you get more confused when you read the reviews because people often disagree? Do you trust the reviews or do you think that some of the postive reviews are fake? I think it is quite interesting to read the reviews. People who write the reviews have have different expectations and different kinds of travel experience and I think that is one of the reasons why you will find very different reviews about the same place. The reviews also reveal the things that people focus on. Some people naturally focus on the positive things and some people complain a lot.

Yes, hotel reviews are very much reliable for unfamiliar places, one has to consider and basis before I made my decision where to stay-in. There are some hotels tend to exaggerate for their market. Try to see the reviews regarding the cleanliness, services and facilities that will help you decide reading the traveler's reviews.

I usually read the reviews before I book a hotel room, but sometimes I get confused because people have very different opinions about the same type of room in the same hotel. Some people loved the place and only have positive things to say and other people didn't like the place and have many things to complain about. I am interested in reading other people's opinions and evaluations, but I also take other things into consideration when I make my decision like my own impression of the place based on the introduction on their website. In the past I have stayed in places with bad reviews and enjoyed my stay there.

Trip advisor is my only site to go for hotel reviews. In my last trip i read my hotel review at the last moment and had to change it, thanks to trip advisor where we can put our reviews and help other people to decide if the hotels are worth your money or not.

I also visit Trip advisor and I think that it is interesting to read other people's opinions about the places that I plan on visiting. Sometimes the reviews are a bit confusing because people express their personal opinion and they often disagree in their descriptions of the hotels. I recently returned from a trip to Asia and I plan on writing my own reviews of the hotels where I stayed during my trip. I have both positive and negative things to say but mostly positive things and I would like to share those things with other people who are interested in the same hotels.

I have occasionally read reviews about certain hotels, but mainly for curiosity and they have never influenced me in any way. You will often see totally conflicting opinions with such references as "horrendous" and "fabulous" from different people. We all have our own opinions and can only really know after we have experienced it for ourselves.

I read the reviews, because I would like to see if most people have positive or negative things to say about a certain hotel, but when I make my decision I trust my own judgement more than the reviews. I have stayed in a hotels that got bad reviews and had a great time there. I didn't recognize the bad descriptions at all. Of course it also depends on your previous experience and your expectations. Some people are very critical and some people focus on the positive things and when they describe their stay in a certain hotel the descriptions are extremely different.

I do read reviews online for hotels I plan on booking before I book, however I sometimes take then not too seriously. Everyone has a different opinion on the same situation. I stayed at one place in Jamaica where there were quite a few complaints but I decided to book it anyway. I loved my two week stay had no issues at all with it. I don't spend a lot of time in the rooms, it's just a place to sleep at night. The whole day I spend on the beach so I don't really care if people complain about the outdated furniture in the room.

Yes, everyone has different opinions. Two people who have stayed in the same hotel and in the same type of room often have very different opinions about the hotel. Some people think that room is fantastic and other people think that is terrible. I have experienced the same thing as you. I Phnom Penh I booked a room in hotel that had received some bad reviews, but I liked the place a lot. It is often a matter of perspective and expectations, and if you just need a place to sleep, the furniture is not that important. When I travel I don't spend much time in the hotel either, so I don't need a lot of luxury.

I do read hotel reviews. It is really helpful though views of people differs and some has higher standards than others it is still okay to figure out what went wrong since they give details or elaborate what happened in their stays. Reading reviews can give you insights and help on finding the right hotel for you.

I admit the review can be confusing. I believe usually people are honest about their experience. You always have a few bad reviews. I lean towards hotels with mostly positive feedback. Also price and location are deciding factors for me.

I also try to find places where most of the reviews are positive, and so far I have been quite lucky and most of the places that I have picked have been good. Location is also important to me. I don't mind living far from downtown if public transportation is available, but if there is no public transportation I have to walk or pay for a taxi each time. I have tried that in the past, I want to avoid that situation in the future, and I have learned to check the location carefully. The price is also important because I don't have a lot of money to spend on expensive hotels.

Yes, I do read them, especially if I'm going to a place I've never visited before. I agree with you that I don't always take them too seriously, because I do find some people are 1) never satisfied and 2) complain A LOT about things that wouldn't bother me at all. But because we are usually traveling with kids, I do tend to consider the reviews that speak about whether the hotel is suitable for children more seriously. I also check to make sure the hotel is in a safe area, and if it is relatively near the places I want to explore, or, as you say, near public transportation. I also look for the odd tip like "ask to stay in the right tower, because the left tower is near a major highway and it's noisy at night" or something like that. And sometimes I read them for the entertainment value....
