I pick up cans on the streets

My daughter is embarrassed and makes fun of me because I started picking up cans off the sides of the streets while walking. Hey it cleanes up the neighborhood and I get extra cash for taking them into the recycling.

I did some similar things several years ago, and was laughed at by some strangers. On a cold afternoon,I was taking a bus to the city not far away when I noticed a purse with some cash under the seat.I picked it up and asked if anyone had lost it.But no one replied. Some strangers told me to own the money because I couldn't find the owner.I thought it was not my money, and I should try to return it to its owner who might be in need of it.So I asked the bus driver to deal with the money. Those strangers all made fun of me,because in their opinion I should never believe the driver. But I insisted that the money should return to its onwer via the bus company. Luckily, some days later, the bus company called me,telling me that the owner had gone to the bus station and got it back.

I think its great that your picking up cans now. Its good for the environment and gives you some money. You might consider giving some of the money to your daughter, as mine was no longer even a little bothered when she showed her friends her new cool clothes. Now some of them are picking up cans also.

i don't think there is anything wrong with you doing that. like you said, it serves two good purposes. it's not even hurting anyone. i wish i lived closer by to a recyclers place. i would probably be doing the same thing. i look for many different ways to earn some extra cash.

I see nothing wrong with what you do. Maybe you should not involve your daughter in your project, that way it will not bother her so much. My oldest daughter never wanted me to tell anyone that I was a construction contractor, because it embarrassed her. She did not want her friends to know that I was doing what she considered "man work" So I just avoided her friends when I was wearing work clothes.

i think she should be careful of anyone seeing her and her daughter doing together. some people may not understand it. maybe you should just do it on your own for now, trust me. people are just stupid now a days.

Kids are always embarrassed of their parents when they don't know their parents are doing a good thing. Maybe if you tell her that you are doing all you can to protect the planet for future generations to come, she would stop making fun of you. I sometimes pick up trash from the streets. Most people who litter don't know that most of the trash would end up on rivers, streams and into our oceans.

This is a very good action. It only shows that you are concerned about the environment. Keep it up.
