Bad luck: Money on top of the table.

My lovely granny had her golden piece of superstitious, never put money on top of the dining table. She said that all the revenue earned will all go to food expenditures and never will be left. It is like water pouring out for nothing. I gave her the sweetest smile and bowed my head. It seems I portrayed as an angel. Do you believe on this?

I believe in the power of thoughts. If we strongly believe that something will bring us bad luck than more than likely it will bring bad luck. I also believe if you have a positive attitude and you believe in good things then you will bring about prosperity and happiness by your positive thoughts. I will focus always on the positive and that life only gets better for me and my family. We have positive energy in our life at all times.

I agree with you. I truly believe that something will happen, you will inadvertently do the actions that bring you to it. You may not realize that you are.

I agree, our actions are controlled by our thoughts. Our thoughts help us to create the actions of what we desire.

Bad luck? I thought it is a good luck? Superstitious belief is so confusing. My mom put it on a dining table on a new year as a sign of good luck.

No. I think financial superstitions are excuses for a lack of financial training and responsibility.

even the Chinese believed this, dining table should be free from clutter, no other stuff must be put there except for the foods. my mom's Australasian boss believed this too. he said that putting money or pennies over the table is not good for a business or for our home. I don't know what really is the reason behind this but for me its OK if we believed this since nothings gonna be wrong. if they said so then i think its just OK.

Usually these traditons, myths or superstitions have scientific explanation. It is ju st not worded properly.hmmmmdo i make sense? Ok let me express myself clearer. Apparently it is bad luck to put money on the table...yes, but not for any other reason but because money is dirty or full of germs, and we eat or put food on the table. We put our hands on the table while we eat then definitely we will get bacteria from it. It is not differetn from putting shoes and comb on the table. Same with passing under the ladder, since it is ladder it is vulnerable to slipping and if someone happens to pass under it and accidently touch the part of it, it may cause breakage and accident. Lol. Do i make sense? I hope i do, happy new year friend

Although I think that it is very interesting to hear different superstitions that people have, I have to admit that I really don't believe in any of them. Throughout my life I remember money (at the very least change from pockets) being left on the dining room table and yet I also remember that most of the time there was not a lot that my siblings and myself wanted for. When my grandmother was alive I always listened to the supersitions that she had, but I really never believed in any of them.

I was often reminded by my nanny when I was younger about not placing money on top of the dining table. She says that it is a sign of disrespect to God's grace, which are the food on the table. Well, I see no harm in following it. So I have also told the same to my kids.

I like that, besides money is dirty and it may bring bad bacteria to our food served on the table.

That's a sweet thing for you to do in response to what you granny said. Just respect her belief and follow it because there's no harm in doing that. What i know is that the money is so dirty to be placed in the dining table.

Honestly, I find superstitious beliefs irrational. For me, believing in myths and superstitions brings more bad luck. My mom follows almost every superstitions she knows by heart.During my wedding day, she, together with my equally superstitious aunts were when they saw me donning a pair of pearl earrings which my groom gave me as wedding present. They asked me to take it off and I ended up wearing my mom's earrings. After the wedding,my hubby asked why I exchanged earrings with my mom, so I explained to him the reason why. I also don't like looking at my solo full body bridal photo because I think the gown looks too tight for me. My mom warned me not to try on my wedding gown for fear that it will bring bad luck or worst, the wedding might not happen. It is really unwise to believe in superstitions.

I have never heard this to be honest, maybe it's a tradition or a superstition that she strongly believed and wanted to impart it on you, many traditions are passed down from generation to generation, how people would believe certain things meant luck and others were a sign of bad luck. I do know in some parts of the country they would have a pot on the table for everyone to contribute, so if you earnt you would put money in the pot to help towards the cost of food, kind of like paying rent.

This is pure superstition with no bearing on reality. The dining room table is the heart of most family homes. Thus, it would be the logical place to dole out money to individual family members.

Hmm interesting. We never put money on top of the dining table. But still we see our money being eaten up by food expenditures. I do, however, put money on the computer table. If my sister or father have to pay me what they owe, I let them put it on the computer table where I work. I don't know if that means something, too.

Good day Shavkat, Honestly it is my first time to hear this superstitious belief. I think, I will take that and try to advice it to my friend. Because, as I have observed, their budget goes out all for their food expenditure and nothing left on their savings. Though her brother who holds their daily budget do not really believe in superstitious beliefs like this. Anyway, I will still try my best. Thus, there is nothing wrong in trying this one.

Grannies are like that. They think what they believe is a fact and not a superstition. Here my mom always used to ask me to stop immediately if a cat crosses my way.I have seen cars stopping on the road if a cat crosses the road. They keep standing still until another car or any person crosses the road first. Tell your granny that the food on the dining table is also a form of the money that you have spent to buy it.
