Africa
It has got 54 countries and not many of them are popular for tourists. I went to Tunisia when I was 19 years old. Then I went to Kenya when I was in my mid twenties. In my thirties I went to the Seychelles and a few years later South Africa.
In the future I think I might visit Morocco and Egypt as they are near to Europe and not too pricey to get to. I am very keen on the idea of visiting Mauritius and Madagascar but they are far away and expensive to get to.
Would you like to visit any countries in Africa? Have y0u done so already?

The only African country that I have visited is Morocco. I went to Agadir several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was March when I travelled there and the weather was excellent, which tempted me to consider returning around November the same year. I decided that I would like to try a few more, so I looked for somewhere a little further. Finally I thought about The Gambia and checked what the cost would be for a couple of weeks around November. The cost was very reasonable and I could have booked two weeks for a little over £600, which was less than I had expected. I was genuinely considering this, but decided that it may be prudent to check the average weather at that time of year. To my horror it was estimated that it would have been in the region of 85 degrees, which was far too hot for me.

I was certainly tempted by the price, but the temperature would have been too severe for my liking. I like the sunshine, but at that level I would have simply spent the whole period trying to keep out of it.
I cannot remember what the flight times were when I was checking the deal, but it would take a little longer for me because I am a couple of hundred miles north of you.

It is lovely that you visited Morocco. I would like to visit it one day and it cheap to fly there. I am happy to hear the weather was excellent in March. I imagine it would be too hot in August.
The Gambia is a wonderful destination in West Africa and going there helps the poor local people. I think two weeks there in November for six hundred pounds is reasonable. It takes six hours to fly there from my home country.
A hot and dry climate is totally different from a hot and humid climate. It is best to consider the humidity and the temperature.

They would be far too hot for me my friend, I have never had any inkling to go to Africa. It's hard to believe that it has 54 countries, so vast!

we have had many discussions between the two of us about traveling. i just want to know how you get to travel so much. I have been lucky enough to move up the work ladder so quickly and i can pretty much make my own hours but only during the off season which is winter. but you seem to travel so much. how do you afford it and can take so much time off of your work? we are both very blessed to get to see the world and different cultures.

I was aged 19 years old when I went to Tunisia. I was working in an office in London and it was one of three trips I took that year. I had a weekend in France with my sister, a week in Tunisia and ten days in St Lucia. I had only 20 days paid holiday a year when I was working for that company.
I was a student at university when I traveled to Kenya. We used a cheap package to get us to Kenya. On our own we went on a train to Nairobi and bought our safaris there. I did in in June the beginning of the summer holiday. In my student days my course fees were paid for and I got a maintenance grant. Only in my last year did I need to take out a student loan. Now students are much worse off in my home country money wise.
We went to the Seychelles in the Easter holidays when I was teaching in 2004. I left the day term ended and got home the day before term began again. We went via Nairobi as it was the cheapest option to fly to the Seychelles.
I traveled to Cape Town with my son. When he was 20 months old he got the infant air fare which was very low. We stayed in Cape Town at the cheapest guest house. Now he and my daughter are child age traveling is a lot more pricey.

In Northern Africa I would like to visit Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt. I would like to combine Morocco and Tunisia. My husband has been to Morocco and he has told me about the country. I would like to visit it myself in the future. In Western Africa I want to visit the Gambia, Senegal and Ghana. I have met people from Ghana (immigrants in my country) and they have told me about Ghana. It sounds like an interesting place to visit. In Eastern Africa I would like to visit Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. My sister-in-law spent some time in Uganda when she was a student and I also have a friend who has visited Uganda. I love hearing about their experiences. In South Africa I would like to visit Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique and Malawi.
I would avoid Chad, Niger, Somalia, Central African Republic and a couple of other countries, not because I don't find them interesting, but because I don't consider them safe destinations at least not at the moment.

I lived in Nigeria many years ago, before the civil war. In those days the three main tribes lived together quite peacefully. There was poverty but also a thriving middle class. When the war broke out I wept every time I saw the terrible situation of the rebel Ibos. I still remember seeing those children with no flesh on their bones.
I still meet up with Ibos, only now they are refugees and many are homeless in Europe, without work and often without legal papers.
I would not want to return there now, too much has changed.
