Not very happy right now.

Someone decided to steal the taillight off my bike while I was working today. I return home on city streets at night. I kind of depend on that light for my life. I bought a new one on the way home. Fortunately, in spite of the time of year the bike shop is still open for business. Didn't really want to spend the cash for that right now. Looks like I have to take anything that can be removed without a wrench in with me every day. I am royally cheesed off. Whoever did it is lucky I will probably never know who they are.

You'd think they would notice how high the seat is set on the bike. And yes these people are usually cowards.

I'll get over it. After telling the gang at work and getting everyone upset we made some jokes about it. I asked Craig who rides when the weather is better that if he sees someone after my bike to hold the guy until I get there to beat him up. We wouldn't really do that but we are both big guys and the thought is therapeutic.

It won't be convenient to get in all that trouble every day and take the bike light with you. What if you move it near the doorman and tell him.to watch it for you? This would be safer, if your work is at a building with a doorman or a glass entrance. I don't know why someone would take your front light, if they had the chance to do that though, they might also tried to take the bike. You should mention it at the workplace so that everyone is careful. I don'tthink you'll ever find that guy though! You did good to replace it immediately, it's dangerous to drive in the city without lights at night, car drivers don't pay so much attention to bikes.

Unfortunately we don't have anyone watching the door of the building. The bike rack is in a very public high traffic area but evidently that didn't deter the culprit. I will make loud noises about this at work. There are two companies in our building and whoever did it works for one of them. Random punks don't wander the area when it's -15 degrees Celsius outside.

Well, if you think it was someone from the workplace then you should make it a big deal. And also, you can discretely look at the other people's bicycles for your light! I imagine that they will use it soon, if one of them stole it! In any case you can't prove it I guess but you will know who did it and you will be careful.

I'm the only one still riding right now. I honestly doubt someone else who rides took it. I'm well known amoung the cyclist in the area. Most of them were upset that some idiot decided to swipe it.

I don't blame you for being mad about it, I would be, too. It seems like there are more and more people with no morals whatsoever any more. Anyway, I'm glad you were able to get another light right away.

I agree, it's disturbing that people would do that, especially just for fun. It's on the same level as being mean to animals or breaking windows just for fun. The chances of catching them are probably small, but I hope that it happens.

They often do it just to make trouble. That I find really disturbing. The risk of getting caught should scare these people off but it doesn't. If caught they would get fired from there job on the spot. Someone might really get angry and beat them up. I haven't a clue what is going through these people's minds.

What a dirty, rotten mean trick, to stoop so low as to steal your taillight off your bike, I would be angry and fuming. seems nowadays people will steal anything, I went out to my car one day and someone had actually taken the mirror out of the wing mirror. Off course no one sees any one doing it, and catching them at it red handed is virtually impossible. But you can hardly sit and guard it all the time can you.

I was pretty livid at the time. Had I caught the culprit, it wouldn't have been pretty. It is impossible to guard your things every minute. I hope whoever did it gets caught at some point.

well, that is a lesson learned for you. the one who take that indeed is very lucky. you'll just have to take off anything on your bike that can be stolen or never park your bike anywhere just to be safe.

I know thieves are a reality but it shouldn't have to be that way and I don't think we should just accept it. I take my new taillight in with me but I can't lock every part of the bike. Frustrating thing is these thieves have no sense of value. My bike is the cheapest available on the market and I bought it used. It does look good because it is well maintained.

I know that thieves are a reality. I just wish they were less of a concern.

I am sorry things are reaching the point where we have to lock everything up, but I feel that way myself. No reason to here, yet. But I do anyway.

Some people just stink. The trouble is unless you kept the receipt, the money you paid for is lost forever. I am glad you got a new taillight and I hope the one who took it has a pang of conscience and returns it. They could have gone to the bike shop and bought their own, but was too lazy to do so.

It is an older model light that isn't sold anymore and I can identify it. I'm not sure how strong a reaction I would have to find someone with it.

I am so sorry that this happened to you and I know exactly how you feel. I have had so much gardening things taken if they are somehow left outside of the house. I do not have a shed yet. I have lost rakes, and cutting shears and even a cutlass. I have also lost verandah chairs and a table. I guess they thought that I would not have got better from my suygery last year. I just hate thieves. We had so mnay of them on the farm that my husband actually employed a thief to catch the others! We knew that he was stealing a little but wow - did he catch others stealing bananas and took pleasure in taking them to the police station. What a crazy world we live in.

It is sad that it seems like anything that isn't permanently attached to something immovable stands a chance of getting stolen. The saddest thing is there is no real reason for stealing most of this stuff. They do it just to make trouble.

That really sucks! Sorry that your taillight was stolen! Nothing seems to be safe anymore! It is amazing to know what people will rip off! At least you were able to buy a new one on the way home from work! I know it is not safe to ride a bike at night without lights on the bike!

My ride home is about six miles and at night with traffic it can be scary. That light really is a life saver.

That's annoying! I can't believe how low some people would go! I wouldn't think a biker would be stealing your taillight as I'm sure he would also know how important it is. Maybe it's just somebody who just want a quick buck, and just would sell it for a few dollars.

No I don't think that the other riders would take something like that. The ones that I work directly with were pretty upset about the incident along with me.

I feel so bad for you. How someone can just steal from another person like that I will never understand. You work so hard for what you have and than some jerk just comes along and takes it. Glad the bike store was open and you got home safe.

It's just so random and purposeless. I'm the only one riding in this weather. They don't need it except to play with it and then throw it out.
