Dishwashers - The Destruction Of Civilisation.... Part 2

January 8, 2013 9:24am CST
Anybody who keeps up with my doom saying will know that in a previous post I blamed the En Suite Bathroom for the Destruction Of Society - Well it would be unfair just to blame the En Suite Bathroom. Let me tell you about another culprit in the Destruction of Civilisation Gang.... The Dishwasher - I have refused to get a dishwasher since I set up home with the good lady. I remember going to an Electrical appliance Shop over twenty years ago. All blokes have been there - The eyes glaze over and we mumble our agreement as the love of our life tells us that we need - One of these and one of these You find yourself wandering off to look at TVs - Look all you want, you can't afford them anymore. I was grabbed by a salesman - He wanted to show me the Dishwashers. I wasn't really listening as he explained the workings - The missus was spending money - scary times. But I caught this bit. ...... Rinse the plates and cups in soapy water and put them in the dishwasher..... W,W,W,WHAT!!!! I HAVE TO WASH THE FOOD OFF BEFORE PUTTING IT IN THE DISHWASHER? "Yes" he explained - wouldn't want to clog up the dishwasher. I forgot about it until I went to my Brother's house and watched him wash the plates and then put them in the dishwasher. Why do we do this this? This is to keep us busy and occupied for when the Cows take over. Does anyone else see this madness? No family is so big that you can't wash pots and pans by hand. How many plates do you have to use to justify owning a dishwasher? Cafes, restaurants and canteens will need dishwashers... A home, I don't see it to be honest - Don't forget you have to wash the stuff before you can put it in a machine to wash the stuff Madness!

Germaphobes. I started putting my friends dishes away after washing them in the sink. He insisted that they go in the dishwasher. He said "The sink doesn't kill the germs. It only scrubs off the food."

Germaphobics tend to get sick far more than those who are not and the result is that they become more germaphobic.

I believed in the same thing. Ordinary household won't have that many dish to wash. Given the fact that you have to rinse the dish before putting it into the dishwasher to be washed, what's the different between washing it yourself? I have never used a dishwasher before and I believe I will not use it too in the future. There is just no need for the machine at home. Don't forget it add some toll on water and electrical bills too.

I get your point here, why buy a machine when you're only going to be doing most of the cleaning of the stuff yourself before you use it..!

Growing up, I started washing dishes at age 6...needed a chair to properly reach the sink and I recall many times over the years asking...begging the parents to PLEASE get a dishwasher. The answer was always..."we already have one..You" Then I began babysitting for this wealthy couple and of course back then, doing dishes was a part of any babysitting job. They had a dishwasher. It quickly lost its charm when I realized that all it was was an additional step in the already tedious task of dish washing. Restraunts ?? not sure they need them either. I briefly worked part time as a dishwasher in a restraunt and honestly....it's the same. I scraped the plates and dishes, washed them in soapy water and rinsed them and then stacked them in the dishwasher. The only logic I found was that maybe the super hot rinse was more sanitary considering they were publicly used dishes??I don't know. Ive never really had any big desire to own something like that. It's like owning a "Mr. Tea" pot ....a rave back in the late 60's as opposed to "mr. coffee". Really?

Keep you mouth shut. Hubby is 78 years old and he doesn't realize that by being the dishwasher loader, he is finally washing the dishes after 55 years of marriage. Some people, like you spoil all the fun.

Our neighbors use to boil the water they did their dishes in. They wore gloves every time they did the dishes. They wore gloves every time they did the dishes. I've tried to do the dishes here by hand, but Mom just won't have it. She likes the heat and hot water on the dishes to take care of all the germs.

I usually have a dishwasher, 1.I never wash dishes before loading 2.I pay little or nothing for them 3.I never wash dishes before loading 4.It washes better and uses less water than hand washing all the best, urban

Civilisation is done for here. I don't mind washing up by hand in your house but I loathe it in mine. Mr Bosch is my friend and long may he remain that way. I don't rinse first though. That's why I have a dishwasher. My Mum cleans before her cleaner comes to clean though.

Do people really rinse stuff before it goes in the dishwasher then? I had one years ago before I saw the light, and I never did. Even the pans I used to stick in unrinsed. If they came out icky I'd just leave them in for the next cycle!

Wow, I never knew this until you mentioned it and I am sooo glad I don't have a dishwasher. Granted, there are only two of us but many couples have dishwashers when they are not required. Fancy having to wash up by hand first. How ironic! Glad we didn't waste our money now!

I do have a dishwasher, and I use it. I have enough dishes that I wait till it's full (or almost full) before I run it. I do not prewash the dishes. I simply rinse off any chunks of food and put them in the dishwasher. I don't put wooden handled knives or pots and pans in the dishwasher because the dishwasher soap does not treat them kindly. Most dishwashers nowadays have a food grinder in them to mush up any chunks of food so that it rinses down the drain. I love my dishwasher.

I have a brand new dish washer in my home.. my dad put it in when I moved back from the usa. I have never, ever used it. It even has the platic containers inside still in bags. I want my dishes clean, not just water run over them. Take care there.....

Hi robspeakman. I don't know if it has something to do with culture.. But we Indians do not use dishwasher. Though we adopted most of the modern technologies but still I don't know why people prefer washing the dishes by themselves. I think eating without spoons by fingers can be a reason. Don't ask me how it is related? Because even I don't know. I just feel. Anyways I see the madness as well with the dishwashers that you have mentioned. And I really liked the way you made your discussion so humorous with those conspiracy theories of yours. Anyways have a nice day ... ~=SuperShames=~
