Citizens of English speaking nations are quite lucky

India

Since English has been declared as the International language, people born in English speaking country are quite lucky. They have to just learn one language and they can do very easily as mother tongue require no efforts. But people born in non-english countries have to cope up with so many language especially in India. They have to learn hindi(national language), than their state language and than of course English. English men come to our country and we have to adjust and speak to them in English, and when we go to their nation, we again have to talk to them in English. This is not fair!!

I wont lie. I thought about it before. I am English and I too believe I am lucky to be born in an English language. Most of the world speaks English so it makes it easier for us if we want to work somewhere else. I have wonder, how hard is it though to learn English, really? I can never answer that question because I am a native speaker. I have always been interested in other languages though such as Russian, French and Romanian(because someone in my family is from there). But it is quite hard for me to learn so many languages and still focus on my path to become a doctor. I guess I could learn just one so as not to make things any more difficult than they are. I have started French before though, I have studied it for about 3 years in school, but to me 3 years was still not enough. The best way I see to learn a language is to be around and socialize with native speakers of the language. Not to be solely taught by someone who was taught by someone else who is not native

In my opinion, they are the least advantaged. The most advantaged are those born in some other country with a language common in many country like Italian, German, French. These people that are born in these language speaking countries are the luckiest because apart from knowing their language(French, Italian, German)at a high level, they also get to learn English, which is an international as you said. These are the people that take the best advantages out of the English language. Nowadays, the more languages you know, the better.

You know that does make sense. And it would be like you grow up in more than one languages. That would be so beneficial because classes that you would then go for such language, isn't classes to learn the language but rather classes to perfect it and build your vocabulary. And if you grow up in such a way to know more than one language at a very young age then you will things a little bit easier.

I want to say that but since you started it already, here is in support to that. We are indeed luckier, why? Because we can understand them since we learned how to speak their language. While if we have to talk on our own language, they cannot understand us. So we should not think that we are not as lucky as they are.

while it's true that It's easy for native english speaking people to move around the world easily without facing much of communication problems. It doesn't mean it's always tough for people from non-english speaking country. I never considered learning a new language is a problem, instead I enjoy it. Don't learn languages by force, it makes your learning easy and fun. I feel people from India are far better because compared to other non-english speaking nations India is much better as more number of people here speak English.

Hello, I agree with you. But you were given the chance to learn English form childhood days. But if a guy didn't get chance to learn English from childhood days, than he has a problem. You can't learn English in one or two years. All those who had studied every subject in English from his/her kindergarten days are OK, yet they face problems when facing CAT exams because only a native speaker can understand nuances of native language.

Of course, English men can travel all round the world and can manage anywhere with just English, because non English nations are making sure that their citizens learn English. English is nearly taught in every country.

I cant relate because i'm an american and speak English. No one chooses where they are born. My hat is iff to you for being able to fo what you do! America has to post all packaging in Spanish and English and a few other languages so that everyone who buys a product can understand how to use it.

Giving instructions in different languages is something else, for that every American doesn't have to learn any other language. I am just saying, that English people can just manage with English in any part of the world because in every country people knowing English can be found easily.

I agree with you. They are lucky because they were born English. But for us, we have the chance to learn English. We can learn grammar but the difficult thing is that we don't sound like them. No matter how hard we try, our accent is still different to theirs. We're lucky, if we sound nearly to their accent.

Of course, we can never match their accent and we should never try doing that also. Except your mother tongue, learning every nuance of grammar of any language is quite difficult. Happy New Year to you.

I do agree on that, it is one of the official international language in the world. But then, there are other languages that some people needs to learn like Russian, French, etc. I am lucky that in my country, most people know how to speak English, but it is our own second language.

Hi anilhclites. Well your point is right. The people living in English countries have this language advantage. But then if you look at another perspective you will see that we are more lucky. For instance suppose a cricket match is going on. Our players can talk aloud their strategies in hindi, which the English players will not understand. However, we can understand whatever they speak. This example can be extrapolated to lot of real life examples. So do not feel sad .Anyways have a nice day ... ~=SuperShames=~

It's true but ranting won't help you, although ranting in mylot will do since you are posting it in english and people respond in english then in this way you are learning english even better. We just have to work on what we think we should improve like this english for example.

I am able to understand it to a maximum limits....But poor to speak out very easily as a local language....How to get rig of this grief especially for me...

I am a Chinese and I work in a foreign trade company.I,together with my workmates, who are all from China,we speak in English just because our boss and customers are foreigners. It is obviously English is an international language that is widely used. But don't be so negative, dear. Now I am sure that many English native speakers are trying to learn another language. And we should say, except English,Chinese,Spanish are also more and more popular these years. So cheer up,and we also can learn English well.

It's already over 20 years (!) ago that English is choosen to be the International language. Everybody is able to learn English or any other language. Especially at a young age! If governments, schools ignore it (which is the case in many countries) you will probably have a very hard time to learn English. But still it's possible. Just like people who learn Hindi, French, German, Russian, Arabic, etc. Learning foreign languages has to do with what kind of person you are, how eager you are to learn (something new/to communicate with others). In many countries do live people who speak different languages (or dialects) and who still have to learn their National language. In my country we all learn our national language and English plus we have to learn 1 other foreign language as well (mostly german or french). Many people do speak other languages also. I wonder why you are talking about "not being fair". Since ages the dutch people are travelling around the world and they always try to speak foreign languages, they also do if they only go on a holiday for 1 or 2 weeks (with their travel guide about that country incl. sentences/words etc). We are a country full of foreigners and we again try to speak/approach them in their own language if we can. Is that fair? Or is this about improving, developing, teaching yourself and help someone out? BTW if you would not speak English you would not be here making money or? So I think you do have benefit of it also. BTW it's not said that English speaking people are not speaking any other languages besides of their own.
