I am under attack from hairy caterpillars

There is a drumstic tree in the adjacent compound and now is the season for these moths to eat the drumstick leaves, I guess. Last 15 days or so the place is crawling with hairy, furry caterpillars who are descending from the trees like spiders shimmying down their self made glue like thread and getting into foot wear , clothes and furniture. The resourceful insects are producing their own thread like spiders and are decsending from trees like paratroopers slither down from choppers into enemy territory. I guess these caterpillars frenzy-feed and transform into ugly moths. If their fur touches the skin, you just about had it. Itching begins and spreads rapidly as you scartch furiously. sometimes medicine is the only answer to alleviate the suffering. The entire family is suffering as we come into contact with these itchy customers. I tell you, it's not a good experience at all.

It sure is not pleasant to get in touch with those creepy creatures. I guess it is something that will happen every year. Have you taken some measures to prevent the caterpillars from entering your house? Maybe some form of barrier with substance that will deter the insects? Some netting to catch them from falling into the house?

I am stepping on them and crushing them under my slippers. I am dumbfounded by their strategy of descending from the trees and using the breeze to land on my house. I dread to think that a landing on my head is a possibility too.

There is some method like spread some greasey substance around ...so that the caterpillar does not travel..I fail to recollect off hand..but yes...there are simple methods to keep them away. Drumsticks..yummy... You should ask people from Orissa...they almost worship it as much as Keralites worship coconut. They would know of ways how to keep those caterpillars away. There are pest control guys...even they will give you some clues...

I tried greasing the palms of the local beat constable but he is helpless against an aerial assault.I have to fend for myself. Now I understand why USA decided on an aerial assault to capture and kill OBL. The enemy is taken by surprise and does not know how to react.
