I have a friend who is on vacation here from the Netherlands but she was originally from Jamaica. I met her when we were teenagers and I was at College in London.
So I saw both she and her husband this morning and invited them to lunch on Friday and they eagerly accepted.
I reached home and another friend from the city called and said that she was coming down to see our mutual friend on Friday so I invited her to lunch too as she is a special friend. I nearly gave birth to my daughter in her house and my husband died in her house so you can see the depth of the friendship.
So, this second friend takes a deep breath and said that she was coming with another friend and this friends' two daughters, and so, plesse could they come to lunch too?
Great I said - this will be fun. Mentally I am thinking of cost and whether to buy wine and what to eat
Then, the first friend whom I had invited just called and said that her cousin and another friend that I have known for aeons were also visiting on Friday, so could they please come too?
Took a deep breath. Nothing would give me greater pleasure, I said. Have we now finished or is there anyone else you would like to come?
So my invitation to two people has multiplied and who knows. more may be coming!
Expense aside, I do love to entertain and am going to plan my menu based on what is already in fridge. I should say that this is typical in Island living.
They all offered to bring a dish, but no, I really want to give them a great lunch.
Do you like to entertain and has an invitation ever multiplied like this for you?

I am just the opposite. I like to be alone and not around alot of people. I have social anxiety now too. I used to like to be around afew friends but not for long. Its just life. But I do enjoy seeing freinds just not all in one swoop. Hope you have a great lunch and lots of fun being with them all.

Meeting folks alone is scarey. I am very shy too. Even worse when I was younger. Mine is mostly crowds and situations I am going into is unknown. Four different countries? That would be interesting.

I sometimes suffer social anxiety if I am going out and meeting other people alone. But I am very good at covering it up as basically I am very shy. But age has taught me to deal with it. It will be fun as we are from 4 different countries and all past middle age so it may never happen again

other than when i got married, i've never had guests multiply quite like that. Sounds like a fun time though. I say that you just serve them some of your famous rum and then they won't be so hungry. It's lunch anyway so something simple should be just fine and especially if you kick it off with drinks.

So I am in the wrong line of work...I should be working as a psychic??
he-he I just remember your story of the appliance guys and you easing their frustrations by feeding them rum. It just seemed like the perfect solution and you will all have even more fun. You won't just be having lunch, you'll be creating memories as well.

I am sure that memories will be created as each of us tells a story to update the rest of us on our lives. Expecting much laughter and love

Except for the cooking part, and the preparation, I too enjoy having friends over for lunch or dinner. But since I don't enjoy the first part, it is rare that friends do come.
I'm sure you'd have fun with your lunch. And even if you serve the most modest of food, you'd all still come out of it having great memories of your time together.

I have invited a GF wo lives near me so she will be helping me on Thuesday with the prepping. I have almost decided to serve Coronation chicken, Jerk Pork, Candied sweet potatoes, a wicked home made mac and cheese, Salads and Garlic bread.
I will ask the cook at the villa where I work to make two apple pies which will be served with ice cream and whipped cream and maybe a fruit salad.
How does this sound? We are now up to ten. Nine women and one man! Wanna join us?

One more is coming so that makes twelve. Now a buffet lunch as my table can hold only 8 people. I am so looking forward to seeing them all again

There are a few people here on Mylot that I would love to meet and you were my first friend four years ago. You would be on my list. If I ever win money I will arrange that six of us go on a Caribbean cruise for a week (kids included) and have fun. That would be my dream

Sounds like a party to me,
.I know they will have a good time. i use to entertain alot before i got so puny. When my boys were home i never knew how many i was going to have to eat which was fine w/me. Back when i had big dinners i would invite everyone that was going to be alone like at Christmas etc. I always enjoyed cooking & having a house full. Think u are going to have a house full to. Y'all have fun.

Thanks Jo. The more I learn about your life the more I realise that we are so alike. Oner day when I reach Tennessee we just have to meet - even if we both drive half way or get someone to drive us.
I can get an international licence but would be scared to drive on the right side of the road

Wooaah! Oh my! He he... you invite a friend, but it was multiplied. But for me, if it is too much expensive like preparing for a lunch, I would tell the truth that no one should be coming with them because I only invite them. I'll tell them in a nice way. That is for me. I don't know others.
