We have the internet and ofcourse tv channels that update us on news almost every minute but the faithful daily newspaper is indispensable to me. In fact I have two - one in the local language and one in English. Both these papers have their links on the Net too. And yet nothing like having a peek at the paper with a warm cuppa. What is it that the daily newspaper is a must in every home? Do you have one too? Which section do you rush for. Does your family try to grab it before you do? Do share.

I rely mostly on TV to catch with the latest news. Well, I no longer buy those newspapers but when I am at my parents' home, I still grab one and read them.

Honestly, I get rid of subscription of those newspaper long long time ago, now I mainly read those news from online, either cnn, or other websites. I got a cell phone app, which update the news almost an hour, and I can read the updated news. Sometimes, I might go on yahoo to read those news articles too. Anyway, whenever I have time to do so.

But still nothing like creating an environment which only a newspaper can create in one's home. That routine for running for the paper - the first come first served experience, sipping tea or coffee while browsing through headlines, the daughter or son pulling it from your hand - these routines are pleasant and create a homely atmosphere. Not just this routine, but sadly there are severala others which have been replaced by technology in one's home!

Hi ak! I love to read my morning newspaper and if any day the hawker does not turn up and fail to deliver the newspaper, I feel that something is amiss. I have read the news on net also either through mobile or laptop, but nothing beats the warmth of a newspaper in hand. We could read it at our convenience and could read a story again and again. I buy two newspapers one in Hindi and the other in English. I enjoy reading both. However, I skip those news which appear common to me in both the newspapers. Very Good Post!~

A newspaper is a part of one's life. I too feel the same way as you do. If the guy does not deliver I feel my day is incomplete. We all have our favourite sections. Earlier there used to be what we called 'hatches, matches and despatches' They are there now but people prefer to make these announcement in local internet channels.

Wow...the Deccan Chronicle...as of now. I dont have much choice, like the dog getting some bits of meat being thrown from the table, I get the supplement while my dad digests the main paper. lol Life without newspapers is unimaginable..lol And that is the only peace filled time in the mornings...with old songs on the radio, newspaper supplement in my hand, and dad reading the main news paper before the maid arrives and disrupts everything..lol

Do you still play the radio vandana? We were obsessed with it in the good old days. I tried it with my 2 in one the other day but noticed that I do not have the antenna and I cannot connect it to the cable as it is not anywhere close to my tv. What is your favourite wave or whatever it is called! I can imagine you with your supplement and probably a cup of coffee while your dad would disturb you by reading the headlines from the main part of the paper. Poor you. Just a supplement. But something is better than nothing! And as for your maid disturbing you, that disturbance I am sure is most welcome in these days when such visitors are rare!

Hi friend,i hope you're doing great. I was paying monthly for the newspaper for both,Hindi and Englis, but now i only read from net www.nagalandpost.com from here.My dad takes Hindhi newspaper as he don't know how to read English newspaper well so he reads Hindhi newspaper. Internet is a very good place,One can read and watch Latest news around the world. This days i am also saving some money as i don't need to pay for newspaper daily.,as it cost 5RS/NP. Thanks for sharing this discussions.

Internet does provide what one needs to know but having a paper around the house one can always read through whenever and wherever. It adds the touch of a homely atmosphere too. If you are satisfied with the Internet good for you as you are saving by not having to pay for the paper

We still get a local newspaper. We no longer get the newspaper with all the sections. I remember we'd take turns reading the comics. Sometimes I would read articles, just so I looked smart. I love newspapers, but we can't afford a subscription.

I like your idea of pretending to read articles just so you could look smart. That reminds me. When going for interviews, one friend had advised me that I should carry magazines like the Time magazine with me and while waiting at the Reception pretend to read it creating an impression!
