Expensive destinations

One of my mother's friends is going to visit Bhutan soon. It is an expensive trip, but she is able to afford it since she doesn't have many other expenses. Travelling is her top priority and she has visited a lot of interesting places around the world. Bhutan sounds like a interesting and beautiful place, but I think that it is too expensive for my budget, and unless I win a lot of money I am probably not going to visit Bhutan in the future Some time ago I visited a site where there was a list of the least visited countries on earth and Bhutan was one of the countries in that list, not because it is a dangerous place to visit but because it is expensive. Which expensive destinations would you like to visit if you had the money? And why would you like to visit those places? (what have you read or heard about them)?

There are lots of expensive places I want to visit...and of course, it depends on what you mean by expensive--a place can be relatively cheap to get to but can be very costly once you get there...or it can be the other way around. One of the places I would really like to visit (which is probably both) would be Fiji. I would also like to go to the Galopagos Islands, and my son really wants to go to Antarctica....of course, when we get our "arctic blast" weather next week, I am sure my new expensive destination will be Hawaii!

That is a good point. Sometimes it very expensive to get a certain destination, but when you are there the food and the other things aren't that expensive. I experienced that it Asia. Sometimes it is the other way around. Switzerland is one of the countries that I would like visit and since I already live in Europe the transportation wouldn't be that expensive, but accomodation and other things are expensive in Switzerland. Fiji is also one of the places that I would like to visit. It is very far from my country and I wouldn't probably have to go Australia before I could get to Fiji, but I am still interested in going there. The Galapagos islands is an expensive destination. I think that it would be a very interesting place to visit, but I don't think that I can afford that. Antarctica would a very fascinating place to visit. I know that it is possible to go there, but it is very expensive, and I don't think that I will go there unless I win a lot of money

If one can afford to travel then go for it. One will never regret it. I would like to travel to many places in Israel, United States, and Europe. Hope and pray I can go visit there.

I feel the same way about travelling, and I never regret spending my money on travelling. I have wonderful memories from the places that I have visited. Some people prefer to buy expensive things for their home etc, I prefer to spend my money on travelling because travelling brings me a lot of happiness. I hope that you will have the chance to visit Israel, the US and Europe in the future. Are there any of the European countries that you are especially interested in? I live in Northern Europe and I think that every part of Europe has something to offer.

I'm not at all familiar with Bhutan. Where is it exactly? I think I remember reading the country's name from one of my rare stamps collection some years back.

Bhutan is a landlocked country between China and the Eastern part of India. It is is a pretty small country, but it sounds like a beautiful and interesting place to visit. I have seen some pictures from the country. Unfortunately it is a very expensive destination, because tourists have to buy an expensive guided tour (individual trips aren't allowed) The government try to keep the number of tourists down and that is the reason why they force people to buy a tour where they spend at least $250 per day. I can't afford that so I probably don't get the chance to go there, but I am interested in hearing about the trip that my mother's friend has planned.

I'm not necessarily planning visiting a country where the travelling is really luxurious or expensive. I wanna go to Paris once, but I think, as a European, with a low-key accommodation, it would not be that expensive.

I spent two days in Paris when we returned from Asia. We stayed in a budget hotel, and it is possible to find that kind of hotels in Paris. If you don't mind sharing the bathroom with other people you can save some money as rooms with shared bathrooms are usually cheaper. We booked our hotel through Agoda.com and the room with very simple (a bed, a table and a chair) but we didn't spend much time there anyway so it wasn't important for us to live in luxury hotel. Transportation wouldn't be that expensive either, because you already live in Europe and don't need an expensive plane ticket.

I saw in TV some beautiful place in Bhutan and cultures because one of the most popular running soap opera here shoot some scenes in Bhutan, although i want to go there someday but Bhutan is not part of the country that i want to visit soon. If I have a money I would to visit Europe because according to my friends it's a very romantic and beautiful place.

It is interesting that you had the chance to see scenes from Bhutan in TV. I don't think any of the soap from my country have used scenes from Bhutan, but I have seen some beautiful pictures on the internet. It sounds like an interesting place to visit, but it is expensive so it is not easy to afford that kind of trip. I hope that you will be able to visit Europe in the future. I live in Europe and I think there are a lot of beautiful and interesting places to visit here. The countries in Western Europe are generally very popular among the tourists, but I also think that there are a lot of interesting places to visit in Eastern Europe. My own country is in Northern Europe and many tourists visit our capital every year.

Hmm, I never even thought of Bhutan until I read this, lol! Well, I think Bhutan will be a lovely place to visit. I have seen glimpses of it in a soap opera that my mom watches and I like their architectural structures there.

I have also seen some pictures from Bhutan and I know that that there are temples, palaces and other beautiful buildings in the country. It is a small country, but I think that it would be an interesting place to explore if I had the money. Unfortunately the government wants to keep the number of tourists down and it is compulary to buy an expensive guided tour if you want to visit Bhutan. They don't want a lot of backpackers and that is reason why they have chosen to make that kind of rule, unfortunately that makes it hard for the avarage tourist to visit Bhutan.

You know, I don't have an overwhelming urge to travel. When I was way younger, I wanted to go to Hawaii. Now that I'm older I would take a trip to Jamaica and one to St. Lucia, just so I can understand where some of my friends come from. The furthest I've made it is to Kansas and to Virginia. Lately, I've wanted to visit California for some reason, too.

Jamaica is also one of the places that I want to visit. I live in Europe, so is not close to my home, but I still hope to to there one way. I would like to combine it with a trip to Trinidad and Tobago. I don't really know St Lucia except from the name. I have never been to the US, but there are several places in the US that I would like to visit for instance California, Florida and Hawaii. I am crazy about travelling and I wish that I could visit every part of the world, that is my dream...

Ooooh, never thought of going to Bhutan until now. Maybe I should start saving to travel in there. What are the tourist spots in there? And why is it expensive to travel in there?

Individual trips aren't allowed in Bhutan, you have to buy a guided tour and it costs at least $250 per day. The $250 includes a guide, accomodation, transportation etc. You can spend more than that amount if you choose a more expensive guided tour, but $250 is the mininum amount that you have to spend. The government of Bhutan has made the rule about the $250 in order to attract rich tourists and avoid lots of backpackers. The capital of Bhutan is called Thimphu and that it is the place where many of the tourists spots are located. I have also heard about an area called Paso and it also sounds interesting. I would like to visit the temples and palaces of Bhutan, but I can't afford that...
