How do you react when your day doesn't go as planned?

Yesterday I had very good intentions for the day. Since the previous day my husband had a very long day working from 8am-11pm with many problems in between. So I was hoping to have fried chicken with some sides ready when he got home. But we very low on oil so I was only able to fry a few pieces. When he got home we all decided to go to the store and run a few errands. By the time we got home and finished everything it was late. We were all full but very tired. I was hoping to be able to get all done before he got home but it just didn't work out that way. But he loved the chicken, mashed potatoes, biscuits and vegetables. So that is what counts I guess.

same hear. I only plan when I have specific activities to do. Usually, nothing special happens but there are time when Murphy's Law still has hand and ruin my day. I try to approach it both halfway- half-planned and half thrown into the wind.

@ctryhnny I know what you mean. It seems when I plan something or start to plan something then another thing happens to basically ruin it. It is frustrating when these things happen. Especially when we start to look forward to do something. But that at times is how life goes.

@Jeanne it is good for us to make a note of specific activities that we take part in. This way we don't forget about. It can be frustrating when things don't work out the way we hoped but life will do that to us. Now I will have to wait until the movie comes out to rent like six months from now and have a special dinner for the two of us.

I try not to plan my day. I set out to accomplish certain tasks that simply have to be done and let everything else fall into place..if the first thing doesn't work, I always have a backup plan..

Yeah it is good to let things fall into place. Then we don't feel like everything is so tight or that our life is a schedule. I'm glad to hear that you usually have a back up plan. Now I will just have to wait for the movie to come and try to have a special meal planned for us.

what you have mentioned often takes place in our life ,and i will do nothing when it happened, because we must learn to adjust ourselves to life.
the four-year education i have recieved at university ,coupled with own experience, led me to conclude that nomatter what you planed, life will go in it's own way,and what we can do is to follow, don't we?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I appreciate that. Yeah life will go it's on way and we at times will have to make adjustments. I'm sure that I will see that more and more as I try and go to college and get my degree. I'm not for sure what will happen at the end of it but I hope that I will have the degree that I'm interested in getting.

Yeah that is what I had to remind myself of. That even though things didn't turn out the way that I hoped. That in the future things will work out better when we have everything we need at home and I have more time to get started before hand.

I start going crazy, tossing everything in the house. Jumping on tables and things. When things go bad for me here, Im out of control. It happens almost everyday here. NOT.....

I'm glad to hear that you aren't going crazy and jumping on tables and such. I'm sure though that at times we at some point feel like screaming and going crazy when we aren't able to do something that we had planned. But life throws us things like that and we usually just have to make an adjustment.

Well, I'm not used to planning my day everyday. But, when it turns out that my day wasn't the one I'm expecting to, I just think that there's a good reason behind it all. And I just continue to believe that whatever the reason may be, it was better than the way I wanted it to be. Sometimes, it's best not to plan your day, let it surprise you, and you'll never know what lies ahead.

I think it's good for some individuals not to plan there day. For me it helps me to be balanced with how I use my time. Otherwise I would use too much of time working. It's just frustrating when the part of your day that you know you have to get done doesn't work out the way it should. When something that is suppose to be simple becomes complicated.

I never ever plan my day, as I just do what I want anyway. Baiswcally , I am online for most of the day, trying to earn extra money, and of course a few things around the house, which isn't much, as I live alone, and I don't have anone to pick up after, just myself. It is hard to plan anything especially on days when I am not home, as I run errands. take care, and have a great day.

Yeah most of my day consist of working online, spending time with my daughter, and doing chores. I try to have somewhat of a schedule so that we are busy and yet we have flexibility if something comes up or if we want to do something different. There is only twenty four hours in a day and it goes by so fast.

Every time I try to plan things for the day things go crazy and never work out the way I want them to. So, I have decided that I don't plan anything anymore. Things happen out of our control all the time so there is no point in getting myself all crazy about it when I cannot change it...
Sometimes I forget, plan something and end up disappointed... I hate that!

Yeah i know what you mean. I was trying to make it a evening for him where he didn't have to do much. But we all had to go to the store since we didn't have everything we needed at home. So it turned out to be a late night but he loved the food so that is one good thing out of that long day.

Yeah it is a good thing to try and be calm. Things eventually were done that night. It just made for a longer evening since we had to go to the store. Yeah I will have to remember to reward myself after something like that happens. I'm sure then I will feel better.

I used to get so uptight and really get in a foul mood because I think my whole day was just ruined or wasted. Now, I think I have learned to loosen up a bit.
I mean no matter how much planning and contingencies we prepared and planned for, something's bound to go wrong still, something totally unavoidable. Of course nobody wants that to happen. So I learned to be thankful of the good stuff that I was able to accomplish within the day, as well as the good things that happened. At the very least, the very fact that I am surrounded by family and loved ones is enough to make me realize that I still have a good day after all.

I'm glad to hear that you have loosened up a bit. I'm working on doing the same thing. For the most part though it's just frustrating when we try and do something to make someone else's day a little better and things don't work out as planned. Yeah I will have to find mindful of the things that I did get done.
