Suggestions for Something Great?

I felt like last year I missed out. I never have time to do anything different and responsibilities at work are crazy. This year my resolution was to do some new and different things. I know I want to do a few more things for myself but I thought it would be neat to get some suggestions from you all. Maybe it is something you have done that you want to share or maybe it is something you too would like to try. I have this one place on my mind to visit called Hot Springs North Carolina where it is claimed there are pools of warm mineral water to soak in that is very good for you. It's not that far away and sounds like a nice trip. Different. So if you could suggest I try something..or want to share something or somewhere that you have done or went to that left an impression on you..what would it be?

It would definitely be a different trip to go with the one that I love. When I went, it was to visit my grandmother that lived in California. It turned out that she frequented Vegas every chance she got and was quite the slot player. She wasn't able to give me the grand tour and was a bit nervous when I went out venturing on my own. I have always been one o venture though and she was too. Her husband reminded her of that...lol. Great times. I may have to plan a weekend trip

Sometimes we have so many things to do and see right in our own backyards, so to speak. Try doing a search of your state and see what is close to where you live, or up and coming fun events this year. They even should tell you about bed and breakfasts along with other nice and unusual places to stay. Cabins are fun to rent if you like the outdoors and nature. Some even have hot tubs so you can soak those weary muscles. I think the hot springs sound wonderful and I would go if I were you. It must be very relaxing and certainly something different to do. I know I live in the city so whenever I can get away from it, I do. I love nature and that's my get away anytime I can do it.

The Hot Springs sound fantastic and I hope you and your friend can go! I really didn't mean in your backyard or at home, , you misunderstood me. I meant in your state and around the area that are just one tank trips away. There are so many things I'd like to see in the State of Ohio here that I never even knew existed. That's basically what I was talking about, not so much painting. You need to vacation and have some fun first....then you paint. Whatever you decide to do, have fun and enjoy!

I know..but there are a ton of things that I literally would love to do in my backyard too. Vacation away is certainly appealing though. Ohio is not that far away..perhaps you could join us.

The mineral springs sound wonderful! Three places that I have been that left life long impressions are Washington, DC, New York City and Niagara Falls. Wash. I went to when I was 18-19 years old and I would LOVE to go back one day. I have been to the falls twice and would still go back. The first time was mid-Nov and it was very cold but the falls were beautiful and I just looked in awe! NYC my oldest daughter took me to for my birthday one year, since she and 4 friends were going. I LOVED being there and our time there was too short! I could never live there, but the sights, sounds and smells are terrific and I was glad to be there, even if I walked more than I had in a very long time. Actually, there are many places I would like to see............most of the country's tourist attractions to be exact. Hope you find many things to do and are able to do them all!

We went all over the place and found out quick about getting passes that will get you on both the bus and the subway. Central Park is fantastic. Make sure,if you want to see a show, to get your tickets early. We tried to buy them a day before but they were sold out........should have figured. GO TO THE WAX MUSEUM.....can't think of the name of it....Madame someone. It is unbelievable. I took a picture there with Samuel Jackson and my son thought I had actually met him!! lol Hope you do decide to go. OH.....Harlem was interesting too and I got excited when I saw the Apollo with Alicia Keyes name on the marquee. I have a bad memory but I remember most of those few days. Even rode in a police car when the girls befriended the policemen across from our hotel and they put us in a paddy wagon and dropped us at this fantastic chicken restaurant. It was a blast.

New York would be quite an adventurous trip for sure. You make it sound even more amazing than I have heard. My b/f's mom has been wanting to go there too. She is a wonderful lady that deserves the trip. Maybe I will see if she can meet us there if we go.

You should check out some of the waterfalls around the area too. My friend that lives there told me about a road that is about 27 miles of dirt and has all kinds of waterfalls. It is near Gatlinburg somewhere. Do you know of any such place?

There is a Ruby falls and a tree that looks like a womans back side along it somewhere. THis is what he wrote about how to get there: The ride starts of a very well known and well traveled road that leads to Gatlinburg. The ones that do know the back way in all make a right turn to go there. Almost no one goes straight as there are only a few businesses that exist past that intersection. Anyway there are also a few houses along this road but not many. The paved road lasts 11 miles from the intersection I spoke of and ends at the Tennessee/North Carolina state line. Before you reach that state line the 11 miles of paved road is a series of switch backs and banked curves. Some are marked 5 / 10 MPH and thats what they mean.

I am constantly avoiding that well-traveled road to Gatlinburg. I think I know exactly where he is talking about. The gravel road...not the fall. That well-traveled road can be hours of sitting in traffic if you don't know the back way in...lol.

Oh yes..this area is full of beautiful secluded waterfalls. I have a favorite here in my area called Elrod Falls. I frequent it in the summer. It is beautiful most anytime of the year though. The fall is amazing with all the colors. I am not sure the actual place your friend was talking about though. There are still a lot of rural dirt roads actually left in the mountains.

Cruise would be nice. I have some friends that go and they say for the first one it should only be a three day. They said you can pretty much figure out in that time if you are going to enjoy it...if not..you might be stuck out for a week or more.

I like the sound of the Hot Springs trip. For trying something different, personally I think there's nothing better than experiencing a new place, somewhere you haven't already visited, whether it's going to a new place you've never been before, a new country even, but the experience and adventure just by going somewhere different can make all the difference. When I went to Rhodes back in 2007, I had never been there before and I had never been on a plane on my own before, it was one big adventure and you will be able to look back with fond memories too when you get older.

As I am sitting here reading your discussion about warm mineral springs they sound so good...it's -6 degrees here right now. I guess I have traveled about so much that it all seems to be something special and nothing stands out as that one thing I could recommend for you. I am not big on trying new foods....so can't suggest that. But I do alot of crafty things and if you had time and were interested I could steer you toward a new craft!

In terms of easy drives from where you're at, I would recommend Beaufort, SC or going northward to visit the Natural Bridge in Virginia. What I would like to do, though, is take the QE 2 across the Atlantic and go visit the UK for a bit. I don't know if or when that is going to happen, though--simply too much going on here to be able to spend several thousand dollars to go on such a trip right now.

I went home this past month. Although I didn't want to at that time, I did enjoy myself. I went to the beach, went snorkeling, stayed too long out in the sun, and ate too much. It was good reprieve the cold and rain here where I am. So, if you could do the same, I suggest that. If not, then there's always Vegas!

Hi JenInTN Sounds you are not scared of water. So why not try out Scuba Diving? You know, I am so very scared of water that I even dont feel like drinking lots of it. Luckily, I read in the newspaper of a nearby place where there is a diver who runs a school on scuba diving and other sea related swimming and other such courses. He is a national and maybe an international figure too (am not sure about that) but his school is at Konark which has been a tourist spot in my state of Odisha. I have put it on my agenda for this year, that someday when I am in much better health, I would make it a point to travel to this place and go into the sea and take some good pictures of the underwater life

Hi thesids!!! Looks as though you and me have something more in common. My one true fear is the ocean My cousin got stung by a nasty little jellyfish right before my eyes on a family vacation once and I have never been the same since. I would have been swimming with the sharks had it not been for that trauma. I test myself when I go to the beach but when I get waist deep..I can't breathe I get so scared. I suppose I will have to add my "to do" list to get over that one day.

In 2011 I have my make a visit to a different destination once per month with my kids. I did it in the spring, summer and autumn. I didn't fancy doing it in the winter due to the cold weather. I took my kids on days out to places which we haven't been to before. It was great to visit Plymouth, Bradford Upon Avon and Swindon's Railway Museum. We even managed a short break up to Scarborough on the Yorkshire Coast. We used that town as a base and went to Whitby, the Farne Islands, Hull's Aquarium and had a ride on a steam train. I like the sound of the North Carolina Hot Springs. Towards the end of that year I took up a new physical exercise Zumba dancing. I still do that now and it is very enjoyable.

Sounds like you already have an idea of what you want to do, so I say that you owe it to yourself to do it. There are many things that you can do just for a change of pace. You can go see a movie that you've been wanting to see or read a book that you have been putting off because you've been so busy. Or you could get away for the weekend. Go pamper yourself. Buy that purse you've had your eye on or a new fancy dress that you just know will look great on you. But whatever you do do it because you want to do it & not because someone tells you you should.

Not sure what you will like. But if you would like to soak in pools of warm mineral water, go for it! I always encourage my children to do volunteer work. My parents did volunteer work and passed that 'desire to help others' on to my siblings and me. I encourage my children to do volunteer work and they do. It just makes you feel valued and valuable when you are able to give or do something for the sake of others. It is a good feeling when you are able to help others. So, I would encourage you to help out with doing some charity work. Traveling can be truly a rewarding activity. Also, exercise is important as well . Make sure you leave time for your family and friends. All the best to you.

Hi ZoeJoy! Time with the family and friends is certainly something important to consider. I really respect the charity work idea! I think I might look into some options in my area. I am supposed to do a civil service project before I am able to graduate this year. My team and I have chosen to do something for the local animal shelter. I might have to venture off on my own for a project or two though. Thanks for the input.
