"Beautiful Creatures"

Hi all. I just picked up my reserved copy of "Beautiful Creatures" by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl at the library. Before seeing the commercial for the preview of the "Beautiful Creatures" movie, I never heard of it. I also just found out that it is the first in a series of four books. Have any of you read this book? If so, what are your thoughts, without giving too much away since I haven't read it? Looking forward to your response.

I haven't read it yet, but as a frequent YA book shopper, I've been seeing it in prominent places on store shelves for quite some time now. Perhaps the last two or three years. Even so, I was surprised to see a trailer for the movie. I didn't realize they'd reached that point. There are lots of bestsellers that I see on the bookshelves that never get made into films. I might read them, but it's really not my style of book. I'm not too big into paranormal romance novels.

Oh, I'm not into paranormal romance novels, that's what I said in my post. Sorry. I didn't really say it that clearly. I like a very select few and I've read some in the hopes that I'd find more that I like, but I've typically been disappointed. So I've never read Jayne Ann Krantz or Amanda Quick.

I apologize!!! I read your post wrong. I recently responded to another post about paranormal romance books and just kind of continued the discussion when I wrote a response to yours. Sorry ;)

From the 300 pages that I have read so far, it truly is a good book. If you are in to paranormal romance, do you read Jayne Ann Krantz/Amanda Quick? I love her books that are set in the 1800's Victorian Era. What other authors are there that follow that same story line? I also enjoy paranormal romance. Thanks for the response.

Never heard of it and I have not seen any commercials on it. Can you give me a sneak peek on what it's about?

I don't know much more than you, but the book is set in South Carolina. There is a boy who dreams of a girl. When he meets this girl, he realizes it is the girl from his dreams. The girl is a witch. On her 16th birthday, she will either be a good witch or a bad one. The preview is what attracted me to the book and I truly can't wait to start reading it.

I've seen the movie trailer that was basically Twilight ripoff. Dunno about the book. Probably Twilight meets Harry Potter...

While it's only natural that as a paranormal romance novel it'll draw comparison to Twilight, it doesn't look much like Twilight to me. Granted, I haven't yet read the books but I've heard a lot about them for quite some time now.

You are right. If there were books to compare "Beautiful Creatures" to, it would be The Twilight Saga and Harry Potter. I am not a huge fan of Harry Potter. I did see the first movie, "The Sorcerer's Stone", but never read any of the books. But, I do love my Twilight...I read/own all the books, seen/have all the movies. While I am only half way through this book, I am looking forward to seeing the movie and continuing to read the rest of the series. Thanks for your response!

I have not read the book. My older daughter has checked all of them out from school except Beautiful Redemption which apparently they don't have yet. She really enjoyed reading them, but she wasn't impressed with the trailer for the movies. She said she thinks it'll be horrible.

I am almost to page 200 and I am totally swept in to the story. I have already checked and both libraries in my area do not carry the 3 books that follow...so, it looks I will be running to Barnes & Noble to buy them. From what I have read and from what I have seen from the movie trailer, it looks the the movie will somewhat follow the story line. I know I will def. go see it. Thank you for the response!

Well, I haven't but I wish it would have a movie soon. I don't read much these days since my eyes get sore from reading too long.
