Buying candles - natural ingredients

There aren't too many things I buy really quality and more expensive ones from, but candle is one of them. I'm just too afraid that my health would go wrong if I used one with a synthetic scent to it. I don't know what kind of chemicals they can put in the cheaper ones, and whether the fumes they have would have any kind of harm to my health. I even read an article about it today. I think I'd rather be safe than sorry, so I only buy candles which allegedly have only natural ingredients, or mostly natural ingredients in them. About a week ago I was so happy I snatched a huge lid jar Yankee Candle for half the price, and it has natural Malaysian palm extract in it rather than some synthetic oils, I find that nice.

I burn my candles in my fireplace, so the smoke goes straight up the chimney. One time, I bought a candle and there was black soot all over my apartment. I am sure I was breathing in that black soot. So, I only burn my candles in my fireplace. I was told that it doesn't matter what the candle is made of, it is the burning of the candle that caused that black soot. So, I make sure that the smoke goes out of my apartment - and in my apartment, it goes up the chimney. I make my own candles, and so far, by burning them in my chimney, I haven't had any black soot in the apartment.

It would be great if we had a fireplace and a chimney, but I live in a flat. Oh, and it's so great you make your own candles! I'd love to make mine. I may get into it, but I have other DIY projects on my mind now :).

I recently read that many candles produce toxic fumes. Never use them in a closed room. and if you can afford them buy beeswax

I love Yankee candles. I have bought a few myself from time to time. There are also some others out there that are all natural like this that you can get. Sometimes the fragrances might not be as strong, but that is why some people love homemade candles because these are usually just wax and a scent as well.

I love natural ingredients candle too. But here i find it very hard to get them. Most of them are fake and has very strong. I simply love candles so much that i learnt to make them. But again was the problem i never got any proper raw materials for them here. But we do get diffusers and they are the natural ones. I use lemon grass most of the time because i simply feel lemon grass smell as relaxing and take me to another meditation mood.

Thanks for this discussion, lol i have never heard about candles that emit some odor, do they add some scent to the wax or the wick, we have incense sticks that produce sweet smell.

My dear, be very choosy not just with the scent but also with the ingredient of the candle itself. If the candle is made of paraffin wax even if it is naturally scented it is still dangerous for its smoke can damage your lungs. If you really want natural candles then buy uncolored beeswax candles. Beeswax candles are naturally sweet in fragrance and does not need any added scent at all. Beeswax or more expensive but they are very safe. Soy candles are also safe but make sure they are not adding any synthetic ingredients in it.

so you only buy candles made out of bee wax as well? Or you just care about the scent? Since scent you can easily make yourself out of herbs for example, also it's easy to make your own candles. I doubt some scent in a candle will harm your health. Cellphones, microwaves, cars, factories, lack of vegetables, fruit, flour, etc. do.

Yes if the candles including many synthetic chemical ingredients,it will harm to our health definitely. But question is,why you need to use the candles?Because the only reason I need to use the candle is in the black out,and this phenomenon seldom happen to us.
