I seen on the news the other day these people that have a lap top with a built in web cam being spied on. Their computer was in sleep mode and was open and the news people had a hacker hack into the web cam with the dads permission. The rest of the family didn't know they were being spied on. The news showed how this hacker hacked into their computer through the web cam sowing the family having dinner and how the girls were acting in their room. So do you have a web cam? Do you know the only way that these hackers can't see you is to put black tape on the lenses when it is on or off? The hackers can even hear what your saying!

Hi Mikemontez and welcome to my lot. I think hackers have too much time on their hands and do it as a way to make a living without having a regular job. Thieves have always been around and they make it their job to steal instead of doing an honest job and get paid for an honest days work.

Hi friend, luckily my laptop don't have the built in web cam facility as well as i don't have a web cam for my PC. Really this information is a shocking one, we must be very careful with this kind of hackers.

Hi Vidhyaprakash. I have always felt like it was a waste of time since I don't know anyone else with a web cam. I hate that there are people out there in this world just looking for something for nothing. There are some that spend all their waking time looking to hurt someone anyone. It is just a sign of the times.

My Netbook has a webcam and microphone, I will also have an anti-virus that is always updated. And the webcam was never used, because it was not necessary for me. That why I am very careful while doing online in internet.

I have a web cam and I would have to say that doesn't scare me. You know why, because I don't give hackers control. If you monitor how people uses your system you wont have a problem. Firewalls and virus protectors help. On my computer now I don't even have a virus protector and I dont really think I need one because of how careful I am. I was also interested in computers in the past so I know a few things about them. I know how to create a virus and that means I also know how to avoid them. I hope you understand what I am saying. But in this world you have puerile kids who doesn't know how to use the internet safely so they get virus easily. That is why I do not lend out my laptop to anybody. If someone comes to my house and needs to use the internet. I direct them to the computer in the living room. That computer doesn't have a web cam, and it is of much less performance. If anything should happen on that computer, there aren't any important files on it. So that mean I can reformat the computer any time I feel like when necessary. I do not like to reformat computers very often though, I am afraid they will be destroyed. So the computer would have to reach a point where I consider it unusable before I consider reformatting it. I can see your concern with sharing such information though. And I really hope people take heed to it. Not everyone is meticulously observant like me. people watch out for the those weird hackers.

Hi Renhard. I am like you I have spy bot search and destroy and stuff like that to keep my computer free of virus's I never let anyone use my computer. If someone needs something looked up on the web I will do it for them. My husband has his own computer and he searches for things he wants to find on his computer. I never open emails from anyone that is not in my contact list. I find it safer to be careful then to be sorry for doing something stupid. I learned on my own how to use a computer I am one of those people that think knowledge is power and it is. Good that you know what you know about being safe with your computer.

Hi Jirojoyman and welcome to my lot. It can be a good thing not to have a web cam. I had one but never used it so never even hooked up to my computer. I don't have one now but when I brought my first computer I got one with it.

This sounds a very unlikely scenario, although I cannot totally discount the possibility. I have a web cam integrated into my laptop, but I rarely use it. Furthermore, I never leave my laptop in sleep mode, it is either in use or turned off. I changed the power settings quite a while ago so that the laptop will not shut down if I close the lid, which means that I can close it to carry the laptop to another room without exiting the program. The sleep mode was negated at the same time.

Hi Asylum. The hackers can get your web cam to turn on even without it being on. The news people said the only way to prevent this is to put balck tape on the cam lenses. The news said they can even listen to what is going on in the back ground. I just thought I would share this. Don't matter if it is in sleep mode or what ever they said it is possible to turn it on when it isn't even on.

I have a webcam on my laptop. But i really don't like using it for talking to people apart from work here. I Do speak if i had to do some video conferencing when i use to work, otherwise i seriously hate using web came for personal talk other than family. And they don't use web cams to talk.

Hi Archie. They can get into your web cam even if it isn't on. The news people said the only way to prevent this is to put black take over the web cam or keep your lap top closed. I just seen this and thought I should share it with everyone. We don't want hackers to get anything from us.

Another scary story of computer virus. You know what ? I am happy to have no webcam on my notebook. There is a webcam on my tablet, but I never use it, and I don't think my face is interesting enough for a hacker to have to put a black tape on the cam.

Hi WakeUpKitty. I don't know why people use web cams I guess to communicate face to face with others. I on the other hand don't and will never have a web cam.

Hi Muneerhabeeb and welcome to my lot. I think everyone should be ware of what is going on through the net. I like to keep people informed of things I hear on the news. Some people just don't listen to the news and don't know how to protect themselves from these kinds of things.
