Sad day for China tennis as China's Li Na crashes out of the Australia Open Finals against Victoria Azarenka who incidentally is also claiming her second Grand Slam by defending her Australia Open for the 2nd time. My heart goes out to my fellow compatriot, Li Na who has been working so hard to get into this finals and seeing her win eluded from her at the final moment. I couldn't help feeling that she's exhausted physically watching her on live telecast as she lost her grip in the game after winning the first set and loosing the 2 sets at the end. Really painful to watch actually. She was no where near the form which saw her thrash world's No. 2 Maria Sharapova in straight sets in the semifinals. However, credit should be given to Victoria for her gutsy play coming from behind to beat Li Na for the championship. So, congratulations Victoria Azarenka 2013!

Yeah...she is such a sport...and she was smiling all the way..and honestly her head injury as well as the ankle injuries were truly bad...in her situation any girl would have walked away...brave girl..

To be honest, I really do not fancy and like what is going on in the professional sporting scene. I have noticed that sportsmen and sportswomen are being overworked and stressed out with their hectic tournament schedules. A lot of people have not seem to realize this, that sportsmen and sportswomen have the need to train in between these tournaments. Unlike going to work in the office, their work are very physically demanding and strenuous. The sporting authorities and organizers should really look into it. In the case of Li Na, I felt that she had a grueling semifinals and all her "injuries" simply proved that she lack the needed rest for her recuperation. Sometimes I really wish that sporting bodies like the ATP here could consider looking into these stressful competitions and work out proper tournament guidelines and schedules. I am sure the spectators would appreciate a keenly contested finals than a rather one sided one where the other competitor just did not have enough to last the game.

On the issue about sports injuries, I think we need to remember that besides the pain that these sportsmen or sportswomen are bearing and their performance greatly affected - these injuries can be career ending when they are being stretched beyond. Walking away may seem meek and disappointing from the spectating standpoint but I believe we need to respect and understand their decisions to withdraw. It is much more painful at their end when their recuperation process could take a retreat from their optimal peak needed for every competition they participate. I remember Li Na after her victory of the French Open, she did not head for the showers after the press conference but headed for the treadmill to optimize her physical condition for the next tournament. Along with other winners, I believe their stress and hectic schedule is no different.

Yes, I feel that is the reason why so many players get injuries. I didn't realize that Li Na was injured while playing the Finals, and while I was watching it I noticed that Li Na is a lot more erratic compared to her usual play with is very solid and consistent, but in the finals she was having lots of unforced errors on the baseline. Anyway, in the women's division she is one of my favorites because besides playing very solid and consistent baseline game, she is also Asian like me :)
