I was just wondering have any of you ever sent a gift card in a birthday card through the mail? Or have you only sent it via online.I have only done it via online. I want to send my dad a birthday card with a giftcard inside but afraid the giftcard will be stolen. What are your thoughts or experiences on this?

I have sent them in the mail before but I make sure to insert them in a card that is of heavy stock, enough so that no one can feel the shape of the card in the envelope. I have also cut 2 pieces of cardboard as big as the envelope and put the card between them. No one will steal it if they don't know it's there!

I do it all the time and have not had any problems. If it's for a lot of money you can always take out insurance on it for that amount. You can put tracking on it and see where it is until it reaches it's destination. Once it reaches your dad's home, it will say "delivered". Or, you can do both, tracking and insurance. If you're confused you can always ask at your local post office for advice.

I have never had a problem, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. I just sent my sister one for Christmas without anything happening and she got it within a couple of days. I guess it would depend on how far away your dad is too. My sister doesn't live that far from me.
I don't want to say nothing can ever happen because you know how that goes. I mentioned the other things you can do, tracking and insurance, to re-assure you. I know it's scary and still $50 is worth at least tracking.
Here are some prices for the services but I'm not quite sure if they went up at all since last year....
Signature Confirmation runs about $2.70
Tracking runs around $.90
Insurance is about $2.00 for covering $50.00 of insurance.......
If your card is not bendable you will need to add an extra $.20 in postage..I'm just mentioning that because gift cards are hard plastic and I'm really not sure if they go through the machines or not without bending. I just added an extra $.20 when I mailed my sisters to be on the safe side. Like I mentioned, you can always take it to the post office to see for sure if you'd like.

So you wouldn't recommend that I just put an envelope in the mailbox at the post office without insurance or delivery confirmation. Have you done it without all of that with no problems?

I have sent both birthday and Christmas cards with a gift certificate in them and have not had a problem at all so I think you should be okay! I have also received gift cards in the mail before too and they showed up in one piece!

you can also ask for a return rect. on the envelope. That way someone has to sign for it. Costs a dollar or more.
