A relative died 13 days ago; though he is not very close, we belong to the same clan (group of people related by blood or marriage) we have a common ancestor. He was 86 and we live in the same locality in my home city Sambalpur. If I were there, I or my son is supposed to attend the funeral, stop doing puja (worship) to our gods/goddesses in home or temples, stop shaving and observe several formalities and rituals for 13 days. Though it is not possible to observe all, like stop shaving and hair cutting; we observe what we can. Since I am here away from native place, we stopped daily puja only; my son in Sambalpur attended the funeral and a feast today on the 13th day from tomorrow we will perform puja and visit temple etc, each religion has certain rituals connected with birth and death, we have to observe them. Are there rituals that you observe when there is a birth or death in your family or extended family? Please share and comments on this please. Thanks in advance. Professor Dr. B.Saraf. PhD. Cheers have a lucky day ahead.
