When I was a kid the only music we had was listening to request programmes on Radio Ceylon. We used to send requests for family and friends and it was an out of the world experience listening to our names being announced followed by our favourite number played specially for us. Have you had the good luck to have such an experience. What were the request programmes in your country?

OOPS! I certainly am dating myself, by responding here!AS a young child, the only radio that we had, was a beautiful wooden one (which I polished often)and the only programming strong enough to get to our region was CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) owned by the government, headquartered in the eastion seaboard, and a horrendous toll long-distance call! Only as I got into my teens was there "private" stations, and then always a long distance call! Always wished that I could make a call, like you! So, there is a bit of irony that in 1966, I was un-employed and applied for a job in a RAdio Station as a receptionist, and ended up with a long career in that media!

Am I not glad that I helped you go back to your youth. Those were the days and the discussion at school was how clear or otherwise we could tune in and how many stations were available. The thought that our names were on the air was something we could just not understand
