Are you annoyed when people say "your parents just want the best for you"?

I actually take offense to this age old line because I believe it's just another way of saying 'we're trying to tell you what to do' and it comes off as being controlling. Only you know what's best and you are an adult who has the right to make your own decisions. Unless their adult child is a crackhead, parents need to butt out!

jamola Parents normally do want what is best for us. I don't see it as control..unless it really is selfish control and therefore is not what is necessarily best.. As for knowing what's best for oneself..it depends on age and even then parents are older and usually wiser with more experience and having seen more of cause and effect in their lives and the lives of others. Also..if you really are po'd when told things by your parents you might want to examine the feeling and be sure it isn't because you are not sure of your decision. This won't always be the case, but it is something worth considering. I have always said no one can push our buttons lke our parents..and I can remember knowing my parents were wrong abut something, and still being emotionally affected. It's an interesting dynamic when it comes to parents..but botton line, we need to be grateful they care...
