As if some High School Student can appreciate LES MISERABLES the movie

We went to the cinema yesterday which was in Mall of Asia to watch the movie of Les Miserables. Expecting that most of the time the people are civil enough to watch and just listen to the movie even in the scene that is not really interesting at all which can be boring to the other people. Unfortunately I've noticed that some students were not paying attention which indeed they became noisy as it is obviously they were talking about that is not related to the movie. As much as I want to understand what the performers on the movie was talking or singing about then I can't totally focus on it because of the noise at the other side. I want to feel and concentrate to the moment of the movie but because of these students then it changes my mood.
I am wondering if they can relate to the movie. It just so happened that we were with the students who are having their educational trip since they were wearing the Physical Education uniform. Others are already playing and laughing at the same time which is again that is not related to the movie. As I am pissed off and told my boyfriend about it after watching the movie he told me so that I should understand them because I became like them when I was still high school. Of course I understand but the point is we are unfortunate that we watched with them and of course we can't do nothing about it but accept that fact. I told him as well that for sure they weren't interested because I wonder if all of them were aware that one of the cast during the play before was our fellowmen which is Lea Salonga who plays for Eponine and sang the On My Own. I think if they were aware of it and familiar with Lea they can be a bit interested especially with the story itself at the same time even if that is about musical play which can be boring for other students.

Maybe they were just the wrong sort of students to see that movie.
My French class watched it (one of the older versions of course) and we were well behaved the entire time. Our eyes were always glued to the screen. The teacher had been talking to us about Les Miserables a lot before that and it helped us to become more interested.
It probably helped that we were supervised as well. I'm guessing those students were not.

If the students weren't oriented by their teacher regarding Les Miserables then I really doubt it if they will be more interested. Somehow they don't even recognized much about Lea Salonga who became part of the play before so I also doubt it if they can reflect on it. I am wondering if they are aware if this is popular to the whole world.

Apparently they haven't seen the musical before, thus their not so serious reception during the movie. Maybe those were the students who weren't into musicals and just wanted to check out the movie because it's one of those popular movies to date that's showing. I don't think they have also read the book. It can be annoying because some people want to concentrate and they are being inconsiderate of others.

Exactly the point, maybe their teachers or the school itself required them to watch and understand it because of their subject related like literature or reading. But the truth is it is hard to push or force them to watch and understand the movie.
In my case I wasn't able as well to read the book, watch the musical and other more. It interest me since Lea Salonga became part of it before so of course I still want to reminisce those times and curiosity as well.

It is either the students were too young or they were not properly briefed by their teacher before watching the film... when i was still teaching high school students... i would tell narrate to them the story on how and why i read Les Miserables... some of them were so curious that they even read the book or watch the old version of the movie...
Students are teenagers... if they are not given the proper motivation... they would easily lose interest in what is in front of them... it is just sad that you were not able to enjoy such a beautiful film... because these students were not properly motivated to watch the film...

Exactly the point I could imagine on how they just required or forced to watch the film without being oriented so that they will be interested and understand it. If that is Bourne Legacy I am sure they will be interested and can relate since it was shoot here in Manila. If Lea Salonga is still new popular then I am sure they will be interested to watch and understand the role that she played on stage. I am wondering if they are also interested about French Revolution which is a history of the other country.

I don't think a High School can't appreciate Les Miserables a lot of them probably could it's just not very likely that they would appreciate something that they were forced to watch by school.I know I probably wouldnt have appreciated something I was forced by my school to watch and instead of paying attention to it I would have spent the time talking to my friends. It was just unfortunate you ended up watching it on the same day as they did.

Honestly I also did that before but of course we were in school at that time so we are not with other people nor strangers. I know how hard to focus on attention when you are not interested.

You should have just reported those noisy students because such kind of behavior is not allowed inside the cinemas. Respect to the other movie goers must be observed.

The noise was not that much although it can still disturbing for those who are listening to that movie. But yeah next time I should really report them.

I'm sorry your movie was ruined by these students :( I think when people are together in a group they can sometimes forget the 'rules' of society, and get carried away with the rules of their own friendship groups. I have always been respectful in cinemas. I myself would have hated if I sat down to a movie I was excited about and somebody was sitting near me chatting away. It's a shame the students at your cinema didn't find time for empathy. I understand a lot of them would have no interest in the movie, since it was a school trip and it probably wouldn't have been their first choice, but that they couldn't think of OTHER people in the cinema, that is such a shame that they lack that awareness.

I also understand too if they are lacking of interest which is I don't care about it. I am wondering if how are they are going to write the book report on their own and I am sure they will be copying to each other.

i understand how you feel. i also hate when i'm watching a movie at a cinema and then there are some noisy people around. i wonder why they are there. if it's some school requirement, they could just buy a pirated cd and watch it at home. (i'm not promoting piracy, huh).
some people especially the young ones would laugh at some of the actors singing. believe me i laughed when i saw the phantom opera cast singing while talking. or maybe they're bored at some parts. i guess you're just unfortunate to be with them at that time.

They laughed when Eponine was about to die but still singing like they expressed it as "mamamatay na lang kumakanta pa rin" (She is about to die but still singing). I want to understand that part but what the heck they are laughing
that is why I can't get the point of what Eponine is trying to say. And yes we are just unfortunate that we were with them.
