Hi, I would be interested to hear anything about how life is in Canada and how the various regions differ

Urban...how does it really help...I mean cost of living in UK and Canada and the US are almost alike...
You need a place full of English speaking folks and a place where cost of living is slightly lower...New Zealand would have been my choice...in your shoes.

It's not the cost of living but the price of property, which in UK, with 2.5 times the population density of Europe, is excessive. In this series of discussions I have learnt that I can buy a house with land and a barn in USA for approximately half what it might cost in UK

In the nearest town to me, a small one, a cheap single bedroom flat costs £160,000 and 2 bed terraced (that is a house joined to the neighbouring houses either side) house in excess of £400,000
Room sizes are also tiny, this is just a product of land pressure

Ok...but may be it is because of certain issues...like tornado prone regions, ants prone regions, hurricanes prone regions, and so on. I believe they have very large ants in Georgia...and those ants enter the home so they have to treat them frequently. And there are flesh eating bacteria as well..gives me creeps.

I can tell you that Ontario is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. I would live there if it was not so blamed cold in the winter...The foliage is awesome, Huge trees, ivy on the buildings, and the trees bloom! You would probably really like the little English gardens in front of the houses and apartments.
Even the kids are nice. I played pickup basketball at this one school almost every afternoon...Not once did I hear the 'F' word or anything worse than damn...I taught a bunch of high school boys how to do lay up shots...

Sounds good and cold in winter too! If there is no cold life seems less real somehow
