Odd place to find such a deal

We have a thrift store on the other end of town that opened a few months ago in a nicer facility. I had been looking for a good price on Rosemary as I make alot of chicken (if you know of other foods it goes well with do share!) and a tiny lil container was like $2 something at Sentry... cheaper than other stores. Well they had a display of spices NIB for like $1.29 and the size is nearly triple what I paid for it at the other store. I grabbed 2 containers as that'll last me a good long while.

That is really cool. I honestly don't think I have ever been to a thrift store that sold spices.

I don't know how it was given to them but I figure they are new in sealed containers and I'm not real picky about brand names or anything why not. Plus this location gets all the day old bread and bakery like to food pantry does so it's nice to pick up on breads that I normally wouldn't afford otherwise.

That is strange, I have never seen spices for sale at the thrift store! Some thrift stores have a really great variety, but it's so hard to plan on what they will actually have there.

It's odd what some stores sell. I have found the sunblock we use at almost half off at a discount furniture store, of all places.

I would never buy food, spices or beverages from a thrift shop. You are really taking a huge gamble when you do so. You have no idea where that stuff came from or how it was handled before it reached the shelves of the thrift shop. I use a lot of spices, and I still do not go through all that much that I feel the need to forage at discount or thrift shops for my spices. A decent-sized jar or tin of spices contains enough spice to last for several months--certainly long enough to justify the price tag. The thing about seasonings is that you end up using less when you are working with quality. The cheap stuff is of such poor quality that you end up either needing to use more of it to get any effect from it, or it is of such poor quality that it actually ruins the flavor of the dish.

Yes that is a very odd place. Is there an expiration date on the bottles? If it still tastes good I would not worry about the expiration date but that might be why you found them in a thrift store.

3Snuggles...I sure hope you have better luck with the Herbs and Spices you find in discount stores, than I did! When I found them in the many $ stores that we have, I was thrilled, but upon usage found that I had to use nearly 4 times as much to even get a hint of flavour! I opened and smelled all of the ones that I bought, Oregano, Dill, Thyme, Rosemary, Cayenne, etc., and I couldn't even get a hint of a related odor from each of them! Sadly, even tho' the original investment was cheap...they are hardly worth using, so became expensive! I have to use so much, it looks like I put lawn clippings in my food..LOL!

I don't think u have ever seen success at a thrift store before. I how they turn out to be good spices and not lacking in flavor. I don't have Rosemary in my spice cabinet. I don't recall ever cooking with it although I have eaten Rosemary on chicken sometime else made.

There are certain places I won't buy food items from.. and I think a thrift store is one of them.
