Begone, boinky hair

Naomi spent Friday night at her friend Samantha's house. Dearra shouts, "oh my god", and shows me a picture that Sam texted to her. Apparently Sam got it in her head to straighten Naomi's hair. Naomi's hair is very full, and slightly curly. Funny because Naomi had me buy her a hair straightener months ago, and she never used it. Sunday night she comes up to me after her shower, "mom, can you straighten my hair"? I did it two nights in a row, because it didn't get as straight as she liked on Sunday. I asked her what her friends said and she replied "wow". I guess I'm the official hair straightener now. No more boinky hair.

I used to iron my hair, using the clothes iron. It did the job.

My kids thought that was pretty funny when I told them that people did that.

i'm asian living in asia so, of course, all you see is black hair, some naturally thin and straight, some thick and wavy. then there's the odd kinky. my pictures show i had straight hair until age 12 that went a little past my shoulder. i think it started to change around the time i had my period. so i always kept it short because i don't have the patience to blow-dry them before going out. sometimes i fantasize about growing them and having bouncy spiral curls and dye them dark brown. if i had long straight hair, i would always braid them. i've always thought it's pretty feminine.

when i visited my sister, i braided her daughter's hair, and the kid was delighted. seems the first time it happened based on the stars in her eyes. next morning, i was surprised that it was braided already, though it looked "experimental." seems my sister never knew how to braid and tried to make up for the past 5 years.

I didn't do much experimenting with my hair when I was young, it was straight, and I always had it cut short, it looked a mess otherwise, one thing that really bothered me was that I had beautiful blond hair up to the age of 6 then it went brown! I experimented more in my twenties, highlighting and bleaching my hair, the colour.... yep you've guessed it blond!

Dearra was really blond until she was about 6, then dark blond, and now light brown. You'd think she'd want to lighten it, but nope, she colors it black.

My daughter has super curly hair and i have tired to straighten it a few times. She is not to good at sitting still so it has never been on a school night. It is cute straight, but I think we both prefer curly.

My hair was always thick and straight, would hardly hold a curl. I was always admiring girls with curly hair. I admired one gals hair and she scrunched up her face and told me she hated her hair and I could have it. I couldn't understand that.

You mean like a flat iron? Or something to put in your hair?

I've debated using a straightener to try to tame some of my frizz.. but I purposely perm my hair because I like the curl. That just means there's more frizz and I have to generously apply gel and hair spray to tame the extra frizz and make it look the way I want.

Wanna come over and do mine? I have the flat iron electric thingy but can't do it as my hair is too thick. I just wash and leave it now to dry naturally. #can't fo to hairdresser every week.

Wow - how long does that take . . . and will you be doing that every night now? Either straightening or curling hair can really make you look different - sounds like she likes her new look!

That kind of mother and daughter bonding is one of the things that I miss having coz I do not have a daughter. So it would be one of my SIL's twin that I would often look after and try to tell her things on what should be done with her hair, hair attitude towards others, and a lot more. Well, I am sure her mother tells her the same, but I think it would be more effective coming from a person who really tried to make a good impression when in public. I mean, my SIL is not conscious about her looks. She goes out without brushing her hair or walks in a funny way. My SIL would then often tell me to talk to her daughter whenever they fight.

For a while I brushed her hair, because otherwise she just wouldn't do it. And it's so thick that she would get the most awful tangles. When she started middle school she finally did it herself. But this is something she hasn't figured out how to do on her own.

She'll get used to it. Besides, when these girls grow a bit older, you know how they cold be starting to have crushes, then the'll be conscious with their appearance.

Well, you can still joke, take it into a laugh, you lucky after all that hair on your head, you still have. Have you seen my photos (However from the year 2010)? I, however, I do not make a big deal in having lost most of my hair. The first falls back to the year 1997, when I was only 22 years old! So take it in jest and fun, that hair, you will not lack.

OK...I was expecting photos...the before and after kind. Is that unreasonable. I'm so disappointed now. My hair is half way down my back and extremely thick. It's wavy and shiny and very heavy. I love to straighten it every now and then because it loses volume and looks great. On a side note, wet weather and extreme humidity tend to make my hair frizzy.

Since Naomi does have that much, straightening it is actually good for her. I'd like to see a picture if you have one.
