Lately I've been listening to a lot of older music, some Frank Sinatra, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Sam Cooke. And listening to standards, but I'd like to find a bit more soul music still early though. What are some excellent blues, soul artists I have to hear ? :) Thanks!

The only ones I know are the Big Band music. I did know for later ones, have you tried Janis Joplin? She was quite good.

No they aren't. I think they were Broadway hits.

Ella Fitzgerald is great, im listening to her. I like "someone to watch over me" and "the nearness of you" I dont think these are her original songs though.

why don't you try listening to chaka khan or aretha frankling. pattie labelle is also good. another name that comes to mind are the commadors, with lionel richie. i don't know if that is as far back as you want to go, but that is just some of the things that come to mind with me.
