My cousin and his wife died in the stamped at Allahabad; last Sunday; they had gone on Pilgrimage to take holy-bath in the famous ‘Kumbhamela’. Believers will say, they will go to heaven; but I don’t agree; as an astrologer I will only say they were destined to die there. Here is the story I read in details in newspaper here in Hyderabad; after I received the sad news via my son in my home. Last Sunday over 3 crore devotees arrived for the holy bath on the occasion of ‘Kumbhamela’ at the Sangam at Allahabad (Prayag); India. It is believed that this bath at the ‘Sangam’, brings good luck to bathers and removes the accumulated sin; ‘Sangam’ is the place where river Ganga and Yamuna unite with anther ‘invisible’ river Saraswati. The bath begins at 6.10am continues till 6pm. There were announcements at the spot to leave the spot immediately after the holy dip. To clear rush administration setup ticket counters inside the mela (fair) area. The railway station is 7 kms away, it can handle 15, 000 on average but on Sunday there were 15 lakh. The traffic curbs forced the devotees to exit on foot but the only road was jammed. By 5pm the foot over bridges to station platforms were packed; the railway authorities blocked entrances and exits to station by 5.45pm. Nearly 6000 were blocked in the foot over bridges. The stamped tragedy occurred here. Announcement at railway station said trains were running late up to 21 hours, the platforms overflew; it was announced at 5.50pm that train expected on platform 4 has reached platform 6, so crowd rushed towards platform 6. The police cane-charged (bitten with heavy canes that have metallic top) the jostling crowd on foot over bridges. In panic several fell on downstairs leading to platform 4; several suffocated, several got injured and many got separated from other family members. By 6.15 pm many lie dead, no help from Govt came till 9pm; volunteers started rescue operation, dead and injured taken to Central hospital 500 yards away. The railway stopped entry to platform without platform tickets; the helpless pilgrimage were thrown out of fair-area they have to sit on Streets of Allahabad. Do you visit places of historical importance and pilgrimage? Have you ever faced stamped in rush? Do such stamped occur there too? Please respond and share your valued opinion and comments. Thanks in advance. Professor Dr. B.Saraf. PhD. ‘HAPPY VALENTINE DAY IN ADVANCE’ Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

It's very unfortunate what happened to your cousin and his wife. I have never been in such a situation because I always avoid going to places expecting a very crowd.

Wow!! Personally, this does not sound like something that should be happening if they cannot guarantee a little more safety and being in control to keep things like this from happening. This is s sad state of affairs and makes you wonder who or what is responsible.

Sorry for what happened to your cousin, I seldom go to jam packed places and festivals or games, if i have too then i get information and research as much as possible about the place and always device a plan and bring necessary equipment. I respect what other people believe but I personally do not go to pilgrimages, their is always danger when large number of people converge and please I hope they would leave the children at home or where it is safer, have a good and safe day

what a terrible loss. two members of the family at one time. i have not been nor do i pray that i will ever experience being in a stampede. first is because i am short and i could be trampled easily. secondly, i have this phobia of being in places small and lacking of breathing space. so i dont go where are are many people. condolences to you and your family professor. ann
