I may be bought out of my job!

Another grocery chain reportedly bought out my stores chain in our area. Oh can you say I am scared? No it doesn't necessarily mean that we will lose our jobs, they may allow us to sty as publix employees, but oh my goodness, I hope we keep our jobs! Still I'm going to work on my nest egg as soon as possible so that if we do, I can have a little money while I look for another job. Though I suppose we'd qualify for unemployment... Should I be worrying? Would you?

Most time they keep the employees. If they didn't it could cost them big bucks to have to close down while they found other employees. THey may let some go or some may go if changes are bad. So is your car still in the works?

The job is in the news now, but they said they'd retain us which is good. I am not holding my breath on it but I do believe them at the same time. Yes, the car. I need to post a bit of an update on it. I'm trying to get around to all of my discussions. Apparently, (long story short) it had sat and had a few things wrong with it. It's at the mechanics. I don't know the full details of what's wrong, but I think it's very minor. A headlight, just things that need to be done to pass inspection. I need to actually talk to my brother in law to get the full details on it.

I would worry, because sometimes they like to hire new people so that people can be trained to do things their way. Still, I don't think I'd worry a lot, because as a previous poster said, they usually replace the management, not the frontline staff.

Yes, that is what I have been told and what I kind of expected. They (the company) put out an official letter telling us we'd be retained.

I went through this kind of situation with the company that I am employed now. The company was just bought out accountants, and since they weren't exactly familiar with the industry and the job that people did in the company, they didn't let go of anyone right away. Although after a few months, they did fire out the general manager.

I work in the security sect or, and each change of contract meams that the new company are looking to cut costs. In your shoes I would certainly be sending out CVs so that if th e worst happens you are partially prepared to job hunt.

I hope I don't have to. They said they'd retain us, and I sure hope they will. If they do get bought out that is. Now I wonder if the hours of operation will change. Perhaps they'll be opened a little later? If so I may be able to secure more hours.

You may not need to worry. Most stores keep their employees rather than bring their own. I wouldn't worry but it would be annoying to have to find another job. In the meantime, keep an open mind and look at jobs at least. You don't have to necessarily apply unless for some odd reason to get see a position to be the next president of the US.

The company put out an official letter, we are being retained. I'd hate to have to find another job. Honestly, I think this one is the longest standing one I've had. I usually have quit by now.

I would be a little anxious, especially if I already was behind on bills, and very anxious just in general of not knowing. I know this has happened to about 4 jobs here, and all of them were laid off. You will collected unemployment (if you pay into it), but it's half your income.

There is a lot of news coverage on it now, or atleast yesterday the news casters were talking about it all day. The company posted an official letter to us all the other day and it basically says that while they may or may not sell, we will retain our jobs. Which is good. Now I do believe it, but I'm not going to hold my breath on it either.

Won't they still need staff to run it? Whoever take over, unless they bring in their own staff to run the store they will probably keep you on, but obviously with a different contract, you may even benefit out of it. It depends on how hard getting another job would be, employment in our country is dire, and they are laying off people every day, it never seems to get any better sadly. Hope it works out well for you my friend whatever happens.

When Krogers bought out the store chain I worked for, they interviewed anyone that wanted to keep their job. The only ones they did not hire, were the ones that missed lots of work, or had a very bad work record. I would be looking, but not real hard yet. I don't think you qualify for unemployment, if they give you a chance to work for them, but if they don't offer you a job, you can.

I would probably be worried of this was the case with my current job being bought by another company. I would say that you may be worried but just work as you were until management decides on what they will do. I guess there are just risks involved in this and you sure will know what you have to do soon. Most would give you a notice anyway. But since i have known a few mergers their re-organization did not take effect after a few years and that would haven given you ample time to have found a new job in case.

I would worry a bit and maybe communicate with your boss about just who it is being sold to. You are in the States and many of these chains are being taken over by foreign people. Our government gives them loans to buy these business's on a 2% interest rate...something you or I could never get. When they get them, they get rid of all the employees and hire on their own family members. It is common with a lot of convenience store chains. This may or may not be the case for you but until you know otherwise, I would definitly be keeping my eyes out on another job.

If I were in that situation, i would definitely worry. Not unless the store tells its employees that the new owners will absorb all old employees into their store. But to be safe, look for another job for back up. But I do hope you do not need to look for another job. It could be really stressing to look for another job.

There is a law that might protect employees in your situation. you can seek for legal councel, just in case.

In my country, you would be transferred under TUPE and they would have to pay you redundancy if they got rid of you.

Well you have some reasons to worry in that situation. That is understandable. It's hard to be out of job these days but if that happens then maybe a better job is in store for you. A new job with some money from your previous job is not bad at all but if you will keep your job under new management then that's a better deal. Pray for that and hope for the best instead of worrying.

I would worry for a bit yeah. Though I would also think that maybe it's time for another opportunity to work in somewhere else. It's good you are preparing for whatever will happen.

It would be good at this point to take measures to safeguard your immediate future. Saving back money would be good. So too would looking for another job in your area. You may also want to consider this as an opportunity to continue your education so that you can change paths. You could pursue training in something that you would enjoy and that would perhaps be a bit more lucrative.

Do not worry my friend. If you know that you are a good employee, you would surely still be referred to the new owner. Just pray that you will keep your former post. But if ever there is a new one for you, then take it as a challenge. You will manage.

Well, I can understand your concern regarding the fact that you're afraid of losing your job. However, even in my country (Italy) we are experiencing a period of economic crisis and also employment. I, with all my heart I hope for you that everything will go well, mostly I pray and hope you can continue your work. You consider, however, that I am in a very bad condition, that I find myself at the ripe age of almost 38 years, still unemployed! What will be my future? We hope better!

There is no harm to start looking for other jobs just in case. You can never tell if you end up getting a better job, then you can quit the present one.
