Is there such a thing as too many?

In the past couple of days I've attempted to organize my books. Man do I ever have alot of them. I have 8 bookcases full of my collections. Any author that I have more than 3 books by counts as a collection. Right now I collect 43!! different authors. And I still have boxes and piles of books scattered throughout my house. I love to read and reread so it's not like they are just decoration - they are all my friends ;) I couldn't even begin to tell you how many books I have. If i had to guess I'd say well over 500.

I also had a massive collection of books at one time, but I have since donated or sold most of them because most of my reading is now done on my Apple iPad or Amazon Kindle. E-book readers have made it easy to collect and store a vast library of books on a single device, compared to paper books, which cost more and take up a lot of space at home. I do miss the feel of a good old paperback, but trading physical books for an e-book reader is a smart move, since digital publishing is slowly replacing traditional publishing.

I find that I just can't enjoy a book on an e-reader. It's just not the same thing. Also, I do alot of reading soaking in a tub and I'm afraid the readers just are good for that. Lol.

I think because they are books, you can never have enough books..they might take up some space but you can never have too many books..now if you said something like nail polish (that's my problem) or something like pairs of shoes..books are enlightenment..unless you got a hoarding situation going on (you can't take a step in the house without tripping over a book) I think you'll be fine..lol

I used to worry about the hoarding thing until I watched an episode of that show about a couple that had like 1/4 million books and no room at all. I'm not quite that bad yet. Lol.

When people see my living room they sometimes say: "Wow, you have many books"...but they haven't even seen the books that are hidden in a closet upstairs I am not sure how many books I have because I have never counted them, but I don't keep all of my books. Every once in a while I go through my books and divide them in two groups: The books that I am going to read again and the books I have read once and don't intend to read again. I don't want to keep the books that I don't intend to read again so I sell them to a second hand bookshop or donate them to charity.

No such thing as too many... Me and my partner just gave a bunch away simply because we never really read them or had the room for them due to getting books we did actually enjoy alot more. Last count we had nearly 1000 in total here and she has about 200/300 back home. Shes a huge reader and I am too (when the mood strikes me) Her father actually has a entire 'library' of over 3000 books though so he has us beat lol

People keep telling me I have too many books, and I don't have half as many as you do (or I don't think so, I haven't actually counted them). But I think that as long as you still have space to move ... you'll be fine. And, since people tend to own less and less paper books these days, maybe in the future your collection will be worth a fortune! Though probably you'd never sell your friends

Yes there is such a thing as to many as much as I love books too! Well you don't have has many as my mom. She is a hoarder when it comes to books. She probably has close to 1000. What is bad about this is she has never read all of them. They are taking up so much room in her house. She has them all on the bookcase but they are so old. I have one five self bookcase. Yes its full, and as much as I love books I don't need to keep all of them. So I either give to charities or pass them along to family members. I have several copies of he "Little Women" and a bunch of other good books but holding on to all of them I would never have enough room in my home.

I dont think you can ever have too many books, I have been getting few lately so i save money and also i have to read a lot of interesting fiction for school. I would one day like to get a bookshelf wall, one that goes over the opening of a doorway and then organize them all via the dewey decimal system this idea makes me so happy (i have ocd ;) ) I would guess I have 100-150 books some are still stored. do you ever get rid of the silly ones? like joke books? and i also have multiples. happy reading!
