We were bored yesterday and decided to head to a bookstore.. the only regular book store that seems to still be in existence in our area. There's a book hubby read at the library that he really wants to own.. so we stopped there planning to go to the mall afterwards. We ended up not making it to the mall. We were surprised that just a few minutes after we got to the bookstore, they were holding a little event. Elmo showed up to meet the children, then they had arts & crafts. The kids made little hats, finger puppets, bracelets, and got to decorate a cookie. They had a lot of fun. This little event held by the bookstore turned a boring afternoon into an interesting one. Has this ever happened to you?

How fortunate for you and your kids. Elmo has always been one of my favorites. Years ago when my son was about 5 and playing hockey on a team they had a Christmas party and who show's up? Elmo and Cookie monster....that made my sons day!

How neat. I am glad it turned out that way, because I remember you wanting to skip the mall and still have some fun. I cannot think of anything that has happened like that to me, but my brain seems to be on hold.

Yep.. worked out pretty well. We hit the mall today. Thankfully didn't spend a whole lot though.. I'm awesome at finding great clearance prices!

That's wonderful....I took my granddaughter out to the mall one weekend and the same thing kinda happened.....they were having a kids fair....well she got to do a ton of craft...and go through an ambulance and fire truck...she got alot of treats too! It was a wonderful experience for both of us.

I've never stumbled upon an event quite like this, but I do love to come upn things unexpectedly in the shopping centre. A little while ago we came upon an exhibition of Christmas trees made of recycled materials which had been made by local schools. It sounds dull but it was really good and my kids really enjoyed looking at them and trying to work out what they were made of. It made an otherwise dull trip to the shops pretty cool.

I think it was a couple of years ago when we stumbled upon an event like this when we were in a mall in Portland. Not sure if it was Elmo, but definitely one of the Sesame Street characters. Unfortunately, it was already late, and we still had to drive back home. It just sticks out in my mind because I remembered how disappointed my then 4-year old. I think it's a great experience for the kids.

We got lucky getting there just before the event was to start.

It looks like they had a blast. We are not usually luck enough to stumble upon events like this. I am glad Elmo was able to save the day!
