Well I went to pick-up Cody today after he spent the night at the hospital but much to my surprise I was not taking him home yet. The vet felt he wanted him to stay one more day and night for observation. To see how he eats and drinks water. To make sure he doesn't get bloated again or his stomach twisted. I'm sad but glad that he looked so much better then yesterday. He was so happy to see us and I felt bad when I had to leave him again.

That's good news! I hope he comes home today. I know how it is to have a little buddy in the hospital. Gus was bitten by a rattlesnake years ago and had to spend the night in the hospital and I was so worried! Poor thing barely recognized me when I did pick him up and he was miserable for days. Now he has epilepsy and takes pills twice a day. That was a horrible time so I know how you feel. Cody is in good hands!
The good thing about animal clinics and hospitals is that nearly everyone loves animals. Unlike human hospitals, people there check on the animals voluntarily and pay a lot of attention to them.

You know, we could learn a lot from dogs. Gus has epilepsy but he's just happy as a clam when it comes time for his twice daily meds because he gets the pill wrapped in a bit of cheese. Can you say TREAT?!!
And of course, Cookie gets a little piece of cheese, too. Way to appreciate what you have, no matter how it came about or what else is wrong!
Cody will be so happy when he's back on regular food and will forget all about the days of being deprived. This is a good way to continue a weight loss if he needs it and you can blame it on the big, bad vet.
Mine are actually losing some weight on their new food because they have so much more energy!

So sorry for what Gus went through. That is terrible to now have epilepsy, poor thing. Cody came home two days ago and he is doing good. He is on a strick diet and I think he is very hungry but until he is 100 percent better I have to stay with this diet. The diet will be for probably another two days. Then we will see if he is totally better when I give him is regular food.

well as hard as it is you should be thinking of what the next step is going to be for you and i know both are painful to think about but will allow you time to think long and hard about it good luck

Very happy to hear Cody made it through the night and is still at the vets. I'm glad he's keeping him one more night for further observation.
You can do some research online too, and find out more information on Bloat in smaller breeds. I hope your vet has some good advice for you when you bring him home, on how to prevent further incidences of this. I was reading one website where they mentioned to feed them small doses of food all day long to avoid the gas problems. Maybe your vet will mention this too.
Again, I'm very happy for you and Cody, and hope he will come home nice and healthy tomorrow.

We were able to visit for about a half an hour today. Meanwhile when I got there I really thought I was bringing him home.
I couldn't stay because he was getting too excited and has an IV connected to his paw. So the more excited he is the more the IV was getting tangled.

I am so sorry for your Cody. I'm glad he is better tho. Just think in another day he will be able to come home and be with you again. I know what it's like to have a pet at the vet and miss them. Best of luck to Cody.

Thank you so much. I just hope he eats and drinks water without a recurrence of the bloat.

Don't be sad you had to let him stay in the hospital for one more night. It is for his own good. The doctors would know what to do if the problem reappears, so it is better for him to stay there one more night.
I hope he won't have any troubles and he will return home happy and healthy!
