Movies that scare you as a kid...not so much as an adult

The other day my girlfriend and I were at the store and I noticed the Stephen King movie "ITT" was for sale. I was instantly excited. I turned to my girlfriend and said "This was the scariest movie when I was a kid! We have to buy it!" So we did. I couldn't wait to turn it on when we got home that night. So we started watching it and...umm...what? This isn't scary. Actually...it's pretty stupid. I can't believe, even as a kid like 20 years ago, that I had nightmares over this movie. I have to stop listening to the kid in me telling me to buy things.

I remember a Danish movie that really scared me as a child (I think that I was about 5 or 6 years old) A man hides inside a freezer room, but the security guard who doesn't know that he is the room locks the room from the outside and he gets trapped in the freezer room. He screams for help and knocks on the door, but no one hears him. After some time his friends discover that he is missing and they start looking for him. When they pass the freezer room they hear his screams. They don't have the key to the door and they decide to destroy the wall with dynamite. The dynamite creates a big hole in the wall and they asks their friend to come out, but nothing happens. Then they discover that he is unconscious and his body is frozen. The scene where they carry his frozan body out of the freezer room really scared me and I had nightmares about that for a long time I have seen the movie as an adult and today the scene doesn't scare me, but as a child it was probably the movie that scared me most of all.

When I was a kid I thought Plan 9 From Outer Space was a scary movie. Now I realize it was a stupid excuse for a movie and I agree that it is one of the worst movies ever made.

I never did watch many scary movies as a kid. I did watch IT from time to time but as a clown lover from birth it never scared me. I know a lot of people that have always been scared of clowns (I've never understood why) that it scared the bejesus out of them. I've watched it as an adult and it's merely comical. I must say that movies such as the Exorcist and Poltergeist scared me. Any supernatural/exorcism movies STILL freak me out and I have to watch them early enough in the day to where I wont remember any details come bed time. I know it's sad but I will let myself believe that I'm hearing things and give myself panic attacks so I really just DONT watch scary movies anymore. Luckily my fiance also hates scary movies so I don't have to worry about him dragging me to a horror flick. :)

I was scared of "It" without even seeing the movie. I just saw the promo and picture of the clown in the magazine. The scariest thing was the title itself: "It". It's mysterious and fear of the unknown is the worst kind of fear. It made my imagination run wild and when I finally saw the movie, it couldn't possibly live up to the expectations. Movies that scared me as a kid were Total Recall and Robocop. I was scared of the big robot ED209 in Robocop. What really creeped me out was the way it moved. They used stop motion and it looked really unnatural. Also when it fell on the staircase it started to make screaming noises like some baby crying. The other scene that was really disturbing to me in Robocop was when the bad guy was poured with acid and started to melt. Whole movie was really bloody and violent and I believe it was rated R, but try to tell a kid not to watch a movie called "Robocop". Total Recall was directed by the same guy and was just as disturbing but much more bizarre.

When I was a kid I liked to watch scary movies, but I can't stand them as an adult. I have nightmares even without watching scary movies, lol!

There never was a movie that I have avoided watching when I was a kid. I grew up liking horror movies. It doesn't scare me that much. And it so happens that my husband love the same kind of movie. So we enjoy watching it together.
