This was my mother's answer to everything: " Why? Because I said so!" (Now she's older and I'm taking care of her, so I can say that to her, Lol,) Another one of her favorites was: "Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about!" These must've been popular sayings for a lot of mothers back in the day, because I hear other people talking about them too. Do they sound familiar? They probably do if you were a child in the 70s, like I was. I never said them to my children though.

I grew up in the 50's and heard those things. I have a couple more that I heard: "You are just like your dad" Not said as a compliment. and "I hope when you grow up, you have a child just like you!!" This was not meant as a blessing but I am blessed. My daughter tells me she is like me in many ways, and I am flattered, because she is a terrific and talented person, and a very good Christian. My son is bright, and quirky, and when he does something wrong he admits it. He is morally straight. I hope I am just like my kids. I once told my kids something I wish I had not. They had been naughty, and I scolded them, and they said "Sorry". I told them if they were really sorry they would not have done it in the first place. Not logical at all. I think I was really angry at the time, but I do not remember it at all. My daughter says I was right though, that they knew they were wrong and they should not have done it in the first place.

My mother said things like that when I was growing up. I think sometimes that maybe, just maybe, if she hadn`t said so much those words, I would not have married the wonderful man that was my husband for 40 years. My mother is now 89, lives next dood and is still a very trying lady.

LOL I think when heard those phrases I knew never to push because mom was at her breaking point! That and the use of the middle name I think we take what we grew up with and then try and make it better form there. Always encouraged my children to ask 'why' because felt it always got their minds thinking for themselves.

Funny! It is like the saying, the boss is not always right but they are always the boss. Have you ever been trapped by the why question? Why?

Lol,It seems all the mothers are so similar in whichever part of world they are. But now I realize she is most important person of my life, she is so lovable so selfless. I love my mommy more than my life.
