Comparing ourselves to someone else can be poisonous. If we are somehow better than other person that we are comparing ourselves to,it gives us an unhealthy sense of superiority. if we are worse than the person that we are comparing ourselves to, we usually discredit the hard work that we have done and dismiss all the progress that we have made. this type of social comparison doesn't stem from a healthy place, If we must, compare ourselves to an earlier version of ourselves :)

I think that when I was young I used to compare myself to others. Their hair, figure, etc. Now I couldn't care less. I don't feel like I am in competition any more. We ae all individuals and it would be a waste to compare ourselves with othes. There is no other person in the world like us. We are a very rare comodity.

It is wrong to compare as we do not have a full picture of the situation we are comparing to.

Since there is no chance to know the complete picture the question of comparing does not arise.

That makes a lot of sense. We all tend to sometimes compare ourselves to others. And with that kind of gauging that we do, it is never that healthy to move forward. the best would really be looking back how we have been and strive to be better and be proud of what we have become.

I absolutely agree with you. I used to always compare my life with my sister's life. She has a husband who has a good job and they always have money to do fun things and to go places. I don't. It brought me down a lot because I wanted what she has. It is not a good idea to compare ourselves with others. Everyone is different therefore our lives will differ as well. It took me a long time to stop comparing myself to her... I am glad I stopped that.

I am glad that you could stop it, its not our fault, these emotions are inbuilt in human beings, but the good thing is human beings are capable to differentiate between right and wrong, harmful and beneficial and can choose the right things..

HI maurya, that is one thing that I am not guilty of and thats comparing myself to others...I am who I am and I like who I am. I think one could get into lots of issues trying to be someone they are not...

comparison in a healthy way is good, it may be helpful to develop our personality but most of us cross the very thin line and start to hurt themselves by comparing all the time without knowing it that they got caught in this habit..
