Sounds like a woman of valor is one who has over come some obsticles that have actually made her an ascet to her community and a wonder to her family. A woman of character, morals and much more. This is something to strive for. Good article.

based upon the article, a woman of valor seems to be a fictional woman. it sounds like standards to high to reach.

hi winterose I loved reading that as it made aa inspiring read and I think maybe there are other women of valor in the world as they will not be the ones to flaunt their beauty and their valor so you might have to hunt for them but they are everywhere. I have known several in my home town that sounded just about like this woman. They were there when my mom had a stroke and I was miles away having my first baby. they brought food and they stayed to cook and clean and look after my mom when she got out of the hospital.they were what I have always thought a Christian should be.

This rather confuses me, since when people speak of a "woman of valor" (eshet chayil) it is in reference to a Jewish woman. I've never heard it used to describe a non-Jewish woman. When next I speak with my rabbi, I shall have to ask if a woman who follows the Noahide laws could be described as such. Perhaps she could. The author of the article certainly is not Jewish. My guess would be that she has no knowledge or understanding of Judaism. For the blessing, Eishet Chayil, in both English and transliterated Hebrew: http://www.chabad.org/multimedia/media_cdo/aid/265772/jewish/Eishes-Chayil.htm I think that the blessing in Hebrew is more beautiful than the English if you know how to pronounce the words in Hebrew.

she doesn't have to be Jewish women of valor can be christian, muslim, non religious at all it is the character of the person, not the religion that is the reference in the word valor. Soldiers for example can be called men of valor and so on. dictionary def: val·or [val-er] Show IPA noun boldness or determination in facing great danger, especially in battle; heroic courage; bravery: a medal for valor. Also, especially British, val·our. Origin: 1350–1400; Middle English valo ( u ) r

I am well aware of the definition of "valor." I was referring to that specific phrase "woman of valor," which is commonly used within Judaism. That particular description holds a certain meaning within Judaism. While women in other religions may possess valor, you and the author both specifically used the phrase "woman of valor." I grew up within Christianity, and I am converting to Judaism. I have been on both sides, and I know that "woman of valor" has an actual meaning within Judaism. It does not hold that sort of meaning within Christianity or Islam. That is not to say that there are not good women within those or other faiths--simply that it is a phrase specific to Judaism. If you read the English version of Eishet Chayil, that is the answer to the question of what is a woman of valor. We are to be like the matriarchs of the faith. However, the Jewish matriarchs do not hold the same place within Christianity.

There are two woman that have lived a portion of their lives during the years that I've been alive that I really do think have been women of valor. Those two woman are Mother Teresa and also Princess Diana. The reason that I think that they are women of valor is because of the fact that they did genuinely care for other people and also because of the fact that there were times they would do things for other people at the cost of their own well-being.
