Buy and re sell items..........

Mexico
March 7, 2013 8:44am CST
Here in Mexico swap meets are a big thing... They happen everywhere a few times per week. You can buy fresh foods, new items, and old items. I love them here. We have one in front of my home on tuesdays and sundays. I always find great things there. I was thinking since I have several new and used items from the usa, i may set up a table and sell somethings. Also what if I buy and re sell things here. Ive seen many great items for cheap, that i know I can buy and re sell them for a profit. Ever tried this?

I think it's a good idea, here they have one on Facebook for this area. I tried selling a few items, and people wanted you to drive out of the way to give it to them. One lady yesterday wanted me to earn $3 to sell her an item and drive it to her.

It's a lot easier to communicate and convenient. But here many of them amke a big deal about it, as we live in a rural setting so multiple towns is combined.

I understand that, but we have to do what we need to do to survive here. So even if I make alittle money. it will help me here.

I like the idea! You can make profit out of your unused items at home. We call it garage sales here where you can sell from appliances, clothes, books and almost all things. But there are seldom who do that here in our area..

Goodluck for you then.

Yeah, I've tried this a few time. I started out just selling used things I had and din't need anymore. I was able to earn a little from that. Then I got the idea of starting to get more serious and involved, perhaps eventually start a business. Unfortunately, importing things and selling them locally was harder than I had planned so it quickly ended. Right now, I am in university and don't have the time to commit myself fully to something like that but it is certainly interesting. If you gain some experience in selling. Maybe establish a market in mexico and are able to find a product in the US that is fairly cheap then you have a business opportunity. It certainly is fun to see profits after all that hard work.

I agree, and not hard of a job to get things out to sale. My son I know will help me at it. I think I might try it.

well it would only make you rich if you increased the scale but if you're looking just for some extra money on the side then its not a bad idea at all to do what you explained. Maybe ask your friends or relatives if they have something they don't need. Some people might be too lazy to sell something themselves but would gladly share some of what they get with you if you were to sell it for them.

Not sure if it's the same, but over here we have car boot sales and markets, where you can buy a 'table' or 'pitch' usually for 10GBP and you can sell whatever you want! They are held in fields, or I have known some people to use their own garage that way they anything they make is pure profit. In my younger days I was always going to fetes, markets and boot sales, it's surprising what people buy, I would think something is rubbish and yet someone else will pay good money for it. One person's rubbish is another person's riches is what I say!

Same kinda thing here in Mexico. We pay like 15 pesos or 1.25 dollar for a spot or space. I think I may try it a few times. i have many items I can sell, and the money is always needed.

We call them yard sales. I have never had one, but I have been to a few. They are pretty cool. You can find some great stuff for a good price that's for sure
• Mexico

They also can be called that here. But most here are held on the streets rather than ones yard. But work the same way. $$$

Gosh, sounds like fun! We don't have anything like that around where I live, or at least not on a regular basis. There might be one a year, and not in a terribly convenient location for many people. I do love flea markets, though, and have been to some in other countries. As for what I can find here in the US, I do most of my clothing shopping at thrift stores and am always happy with what I bring home. There are stores besides Goodwill, but we also have a place called The Bins, which is all the stuff that Goodwill can't/won't sell for super cheap, much of it sold by the pound. I've definitely found and resold things from there. It really is a lot of fun!

it is fun, as you never know what you might find to pay. every time is different here.

My relatives used to do this alot when they were in better health. They'd pick up things cheap, or curbside (wash and fix them up) and then resell them for a profit at a flea market or rummage sale. The only things like that I've ever done was with clothes the kids out grew of but even for change people weren't buying so I just donate their things now.

I love going to swap meets, auctions, flea markets and garage sales. I also like going to the goodwill stores here. There are a lot of good things you can find and resale. That is a way that a lot of people make money. I have been tempted to go to the storage shed auctions. I hear they have a lot of good things in them and there is no telling what you can find.

I have never been into this kind of buying and selling. The closest I think that I can get to that is the bazaars and thrift shops. I do like to try out that kind of swaps if ever.

Hi Maria ! I don't know if this is exactly the garage sale which you are talking . We have it here but we call it as garage sale . One sells his old things or things no longer in used in a very cheap price . I can imagine how nice would be your Tuesdays and Sundays , people flocked to those goods and was able to save big amount. I love this whole thing , because it is so practical . We need to be smart and wise buy second hand as long as it is functional and safety . Savings is very important especially during hard life .

No, more of a flea market or swap meet. Where everyone goes to one place and sets up tables to sell their items.

Interesting. Sounds like fun. I haven't tried to buy and resell items but know others who have done so and it worked well. Was aparently profitable as these folks continue to do flea markets all the time. I would love to be able to sell my crafts in this manner but doubt it's something that could happen in our area. Craft fairs I have done and they are fun but not always extremely profitable. Good luck to you if you decide to buy and resell.

hi mariaperalta. that practice is quite common here in our country. we simply can it buy and sell and the products being offered range from appliances to gadgets and up to big items like vehicles and even houses. it is good business but depending on the item that you want to buy and sell, you need a good amount of money. my cousin is involved in buying and selling houses. she buys a house, fixes it up and then sells it for a profit. she is an interior designer and her husband is involved in construction so they know what they are doing. they have the background and the means to go about it. i was involved in buying and selling clothes back in the day. it was profitable but very tiring. i decided to not altogether. some of my friends are involved in the buy and sell of cars. they would have two or three different models and would look for buyers. sometimes, i would refer a buyer and when the sale pushed through, i would get a commission. it was a good way to earn cash without any risk as i was just a go-between between the buyer and the seller.

That is one great way of earning with little to no capital at all. You can even ask your friends if they want some of their things disposed and you can actually sell them and get a portion of the sale from those items.
