Art and techniques

This is a question for the artists on MyLot. Which kinds of techniques do you use in your art? Have read or heard about the techniques that you use? Did you get inspiration from friends? Or have you developped your own techniques through experiments? In my paintings I have used paper, candle wax, coffee grounds, coins and several other things. On the internet I read about a woman who used coffee grounds in her paintings and I decided to experiment with that as well. A mix of paint and paper is a technique that I have developped on my own. I take a piece of white paper and then I divide it in small pieces. Before I start I paint the canvas and I use the paint as glue. One by one I add the small pieces of paper and I make sure that there are small spaces between the paper. When I have covered the entire canvas with paper I paint the paper. The spaces between the paper creates a kind of contrast. On the internet I read about two other techniques that I would like to try in the future. One woman uses a blowdryer to spread the paint. It is really messy, but the results are very beautiful. Another techniques that I read about is a technique where you spread the paint with a fly swatter. I would like to try that.

I also think that the blow dryer technique sounds interesting. I am a member of a Danish discussion forum where there are many different categories and one of those categories is art. One woman posted some pictures of paintings she had made with a blow dryer and the paintings were very beautiful. She wrote that it had taken her a lot of time to master the technique and she had to experiment a lot. She had to cover the floor carefully before she started because it could get really messy. I guess my husband wouldn't be too happy if I covered the entire floor with paint but I would still like to experiment with this technique in the future.
