I read the Nancy Drew books when I was growing up and loved them. I would get a new book for my birthday and Christmas. It was so exciting to read it to the point that I would hate for the book to end. Now I was to introduce these books to my granddaughter but can't seem to find a place to buy them. Amazon is selling the complete set but its a ridulous amount of money. Any suggestions? By the way did you read them as a child yourself?

I read a lot of Nancy Drew books when I was a teener too! I wish I could share the passion of reading with my kids but they are busy with gadgets nowadays. T There is a bookstore here in our country named National Bookstore which still have Nancy Drew books and most latest books. I haven't had a chance to buy new books though.

Isn't that so unfortunate that so many kids today are growing up with gadgets in their hands instead of a good book before they go to sleep. My seven year old granddaughter though loves to read. Instead of her mom reading to her like she use to when she was younger she is now reading a book to her mommy. I love it.

Yes, I'm so happy that she loves to read. I think reading is so important in life.

Myabe the parents, the guardians and the people around the kids growing life have something to do with the kids preference on reading over gadget. It is good to hear though that your granddaughter loves to read.

Nancy Drew Mystery books are what girls of 9 through 16 would read when I was growing up. The books are about a girl name Nancy Drew who lives with her attorney father Carson Drew and a housekeeper named Hannah Gruen. She lost her mom when she was ten years old. She spends her time solving mysteries that she either stumbles upon or some that begin as cases of her fathers. She has help with her best friends, Bess, George and her boyfriend Ned. Many a times I remember her father getting upset with her because she would be taking big chances with her life on some of the cases. They are really good mysteries that young girls just love to read.

By the way the Nancy Drew Books I read were written by Carolyn Keene. There are other books of Nancy Drew written by other people which were written probably when my girls were little.

You could continue the tradition and get her 2-4 books per year at around $5 each. Barnes and Noble has them and I'm sure you could find used paperbacks or hardcovers at used book stores as long as they were recently published. You may be been looking at older copies that are collectible? I was a Hardy Boys fan. There was a lot of action there whereas Nancy Drew books tended to be more cerebral, at least the couple that I read. I was an unusual girl who was bored with dolls and playing house and all the other things girls my age did. I preferred action books, hunting and camping, climbing trees, etc. So the Hardy boys were more to my taste.

I checked into it at Barnes and Noble and they are there priced at about 7 to 8 dollars a book or you can get a beginners set at about 16 dollars I think. I'm so excited I will be buying them for Christmas for my oldest granddaughter. Thank you again.

Oh the memories! Haha! I read them all, and this is not primarily because I loved them but because my crush back then borrowed from the library and read all of them! I was such a stalker in elementary! So funny to think about it now! But eventually, I became so engrossed in reading them that I was also able to finish The Hardy Boys! Remember them?

Oh I loved reading as a child and now at 56 years old I still love it. It takes you away from everything. It makes your imagination work so much better when one reads, in my opinion. You like to read now?

I always wanted to read them all but I only ever got to read 2. I found them at my grandmothers they were hidden away on one of her many bookshelves covered with dust as if they had been there a long time. I opened them up and I was transformed. I spent my summer trying to look for more the only ones I found were above my limited price of 1.00 so instead I searched my grandmothers looking for more bugging my grandmother with my constant questioning about more Nancy Drew finally I moved on to another series that my grandmother seem to have a lot of the books and they seemed interesting and that was the Trixie Belden series. That was also the summer I discovered Little House On the Prarie and the series I started calling my dad and mom, Pa and Ma. As I grew older I out grew the Ma and Pa thing but I never forgot about Nancy Drew I looked at every thrift store I ever went into and I never found any more of the Nancy Drew Series. Now that I am an adult I want my daughter to be able to read them but like you I am having a hard time finding just a few of the books with out having to buy the whole set.

I never read any of the Nancy Drew books. I am not a fan of mysteries. Not even when I was younger. I read the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder,Black Beauty and most of the Black Stallion books by Walter Farely. Before I forget I did read Flicka,Thunderhead and the Green Grass of Wyoming. Those were my books!

Little House on the Prairie and Black Beauty were good books too. I love mysteries so that is probably why I loved the Nancy Drew mystery books.

I have never read Nancy Drew, but I have seen one. I have seen one in my library, that means there is someone here in our house who reads Nancy Drew and I have a feeling that its my mom. Anyway, even if I didn't read one of them, I heard that its a mystery. That book is famous and because of word of mouth, I knew that book even though I did not read them at all.

Well they are really very good books. In fact I think I would love to read them again to see how different it is to read them now compare to when I was young.

Hi Lelin ! Oh Nancy Drew's book was just so beautiful ! I can't resist any copy of it. During my high school life i read all the series of it . I won't stand if 1 book was not down , i remembered how mom was getting angry to me because i can no longer do my task at home because so much hooked to this Nancy Drew's book. Oh in your bookstore there , no more Nancy's books ? So sad , in our country still i am seeing those books displayed in bookstore , just the packaging is new already. So good of you sharing it with grandaughter! Hope you can find and share it . Those books tells a very good moral lesson , worthy to be passed indeed !

These books were so good you didn't want to put the book down for a minute. I know I'm sure I got in trouble at times when I was suppose to be doing something else but I was caught reading a Nancy Drew book. The books that are the best are the ones we can't put down though.

Ooh...Nancy Drew! Splendid books! You just remind me of my younger times during schools. I would read three Nancy Drew books a day...and slowly, i finished most of the books available in the school library shelves. I love the mysterious and adventures Nancy went through, and took some cases of her father's to solve. I just missed the books so much, and i don't have all the collection though...

Yes they were the best when I was growing up. I wish I knew what happen to all my books. I would have saved them for my girls and then they could have given them to their daughters. I just can't find a good place to buy them at a good price.

I never heard of the game. Will have to check it out. When living in New York and New Mexico I would always look for them at flea markets or yard sales. Never found any. Now that I'm living in Puerto Rico I know they would not be found here for sure. Even though I keep a look out, if found they would probably be in spanish.

Lelin, same like you i like Nancy Drew story books. I had been reading them since from the aged of 10. I like the way Nancy Drew approached and solved her problems. In fact, we can even some of our daily problem using her tactics. Why don't you try to find some of Nancy Drew books through your local bookstore? I had seen some new stories of Nancy Drew through my local bookstore. Happy weekend...
