Are Americans/Europeans/Asians THAT dependent on federal money?

The sudden cuts in federal spending called sequestration have uncovered something revealing about life in these United States. The stories about cuts in services to battered women; to aid to the elderly; to energy assistance for the poor and dozens more programs have been met by fear and pain across the country.
Yes, some people will call this being overly dramatic but looking at it from the point of view of the recipients of these services and assistance - ho boy, it HURTS.
So the question for US and other countries - are we dependent or is it just something we don't need to spend after all.
Your turn, folks...

I think some people are dependent but they don't have much choice when our economy is so lopsided.

I would also like to see where these jobs are because right nearly half the country makes 33,000 dollars or less a year.

You blame it on liberals,I blame it the divide and conquer method that way we do not have to pay people a fair wage. Its the race to the bottom who can do the most work for the least amount of pay. That is how companies hire these days. You want people to stop depending on the government, then the private sector is going to have to start paying people a fair living wage. There is something wrong in this country when 93 percent of the income goes to the 1 percent.

When President Obama was running for election the first time he promised to go line by line to eliminate government waste. Now the sequester hits and what does he direct his people to cut - those things that will hurt the American People, those things that will put Americans at risk and then to blame it on the Republicans because the would not give him more tax increases. When we faced the Fiscal Cliff he said that he would go along with increasing taxes on the rich only but no spending cuts. Now with the sequester, which was his idea, he wants no spending cuts only tax increases on the rich. It seems to me all he wants is more taxes and more money to spend. He already has the largest revenue of any president but he wants more taxes. What happens when he has taken all from the rich who will he turn to then?

It depends on what they cut. For instance, aid to the poor, battered women, and the elderly should not be cut. Neither should programs who help people get battered jobs, transportation, etc. Yet that is probably the programs that are getting hurt because the ones in charge - like Obama do not want to lose their followers nor their vacations. I would go for the congress, members or parliament, senate, the house, etc. or the equivalent in other countries to take a cut in salary, I would like the illegal immigrants to either go back to their home country or their embassy and apply for legal citizenship, and for those who are getting entitlements by having babies, or not taking jobs because those are not important enough to stop. I would like duplicate services be cut. So there are things one needs to spend and there are things one does not need to spend.
It is a matter of the right choice.

If it hurts, it's because Obama WANTS it to hurt. He spent all this time talking about doom and gloom and how the world would end and teachers would lose their jobs and now that his bluff has been called, he's doing everything in his power to make sure the cuts hurt. He'd rather Americans suffer than admit he lied.
Think I'm making this up? Just look at the leaked email regarding sequestration cuts.
“We have gone on record with a notification to Congress and whoever else that “APHIS would eliminate assistance to producers in 24 States in managing wildlife damage to the aquaculture industry, unless they provide funding to cover the costs.“ So, it is our opinion that however you manage that reduction, you need to make sure you are not contradicting what we said the impact would be.”

Don't think the media is in the tank for the president, go on and scour the web and see if ANYONE besides Fox News has actually covered this story. MSNBC and CNN won't touch it.
Beyond that, yes, we have become too dependent on the federal government. People need to get off the government teet and be more self-sufficient. Save your own money for when you are unemployed. Save for your own retirement. Save for your own healthcare costs. People won't do that though. They'll live at or above their means to be comfortable and just hope that they never have problems that will force them to go into their savings.
