My Granddaughter Cooked Lunch

Whenever I need help on my pc I call on my 12 year old GD. We have always got on well and I love being with her. So we arranged to meet about 2pm at her mother's house and I traipsed over there with twins in tow. I hadn't realised that her other GM was there plus relatives on her mother's side but they made us welcome. I suddenly realised how grown up she has become. She was grilling hot dogs and burgers for everyone, whipping up a salad, and thinking of dessert plus chatting to the twins. She has so grown up. Once she it all organised she opened my pc while asking what the problem was and yes, she fixed it. So we stayed and after lunch she played on her guitar (self taught after one lessons to learn keys or something) and I marvelled at the young lady she is becoming. Have you ever had a road to Damascus moment and realised that your child or grand child has suddenly matured?

That was a few weeks ago when Dearra had friends over. Usual rule, if you're having friends over, clean up. She went way over and above, bathrooms, litter boxes, etc.

That's so nice her mother's family was nice to you and the twins.. unlike the twins mother's family! Almost everyday I see how much my kids are growing up, and it's sad. Yesterday I brought my kids to visit a friend of mine and her kids. Her son is 8, and my 6 year old was just about the same height as him. My 6 year old is a tall boy!

It's good to keep them close like that. How nice of their mom to be so good to you all. Yes my 6 year old son does wear clothes for an 8 year old. Most of my kids have always worn a size larger than their age.. except my youngest. He's the tiny one of the bunch. He's 5 now but still wears size 4 clothes.. and probably will until he's 6.

My GD is still wearing topd for a 3 year old but she is tall so if we buy pants then we have to get her length with an adjustable waist. We call her bones. She will be seven in June and only weighs about 33 lbs But the Dr. considers her to be healthy. She eats protein and fruit and beggies and is just not into carbs so I give her whole milk to push in a few calories

We have a great relationship with the GD's mother. She came to Rachel's wedding etc and I see her quite often. She knew that if work went crazy then I was always there in any emergency to pick up my GD from school and bring her to my office. She has the twins over for sleepovers too. So the children spend a lot of time together. Likewise the GD spends sleepovers with us too. Your 6 year old must be very tall then. Do you buy clothes for an 8 year old?

Oh yeah, even with the adults ones I see how they have matured over a short period of time. My 10 y/o also surprises me with some wise words, but at 10, I guess they go back and forth, because the next thing he does is something so totally opposite and immature..

Oh, she sounds like an adorable little girl... Even my most outspoken child would too shy to say something to the customs officer... No, my son demonstrates his personality only to family and friends...

She's polite but outspoken. At another airport - I think Miami- she was holding her passport and HS wanted to look at it. So she asked him if she was not in America? He said she was. Then she asked him in she could have got on a plane without a passport. he replied no. So she said that being in America meant that she had a passport and they had seen her passport at Immigration so why did he want to see it again? He could hardly keep a straight face and quickly said that he just wanted to see her photo in the passport as she was so pretty a little girl. So she complied.

multitasking, smart, talented, and she's only 12. we really do live in a fast-paced world. they pick up on things so fast and they're not afraid to learn on their own. I traipsed over there with twins in tow. i could visualize the three of you skipping, laughing and singing on the way there, blue skies, mild breeze and all.

Definitely laughing, and blue skies together with a breeze. But I don't do skipping anymore but the twins do

That's sweet of you. Yes, it is like we are close friends. She tells me her little secrets and then she gives advice on my make up. she is notimpatient with me when I don't grasp a computer probem immediately and I appreciate her gentleness with me.

Yes! The youngest is growing up so fast. I talked to her dad last night and when he picked her up for his week she had made supper. Some sort of green bean casserole...wonder whose idea that was.....her's or her mother. I am thinking my ex DIL is having regrets!

This story is like my son's. But he was in a very long relationship from they were 17 but they did not get married. She fell for someone else and told him to leave. I know that she has regretted it and they will always be friends but although she had had boyfriends she did not marry. sometimes a person has to lose someone before they realise the worth of that person. I suspect that she did not have a teenage time and this was the problem

wow cynthiann that sounds like a lovely little girl and so grown up already too.i am glad you and her get along so well and that you have a lovely time there too. She is very accomplished for a 12 year old but todays kids are so far ahead of kids of a generation back., I used to work in the library and on my day off I stopped in to use one of the computers and got myself in a mess as it was different from mine at home,.this kid about ten came over. 'Can I help" he asked and I nodded. He did this and that and in ten minutes he had me all untangled and ready to post. I asked him how old he was and his grand his grandmother came up and told me" hes just six but hes a gifted child": and i had to agree there. very gifted indeed. After that I often met up with the little boy and his grandmother. I always wondered why he was with her .and one day she told me his parents had been killed in a head on collision on the freeway with a driver going the wrong wahy who plowed into their car.She told me he was only one and was crying when the ambulance people got to his parents and him, He was not hurt but his parents were both killed.

I think that she will go for a career first. She is bright and doing well at High School. On her mother's side they are ;awyers and are trying to gently push her in that direction but she told them that at present she has not made a decision. She will make up her own mind but it will involve something to help people

I'm with my daughter every single day so this isn't something that I've noticed with her overnight. However, she is only ten years old and I see her doing and saying things that are so very mature and it just impresses me. I know that the day will come (and it isn't too far down the line) that she really is going to all of a sudden go from being a girl to being a young lady. I also have to say that the thought of it scares me a little bit.

Yes it is scary. I just hope that the teen years will go smoothly but she has a wonderful, understanding mother who will help her in every way. They do grow up so quickly.

I'm still waiting for that moment! I have a 12 year old, and I can't see him being matured enough. Maybe it's because he's the oldest (when they get together with his younger brother, their 10 year old cousin, and 10 year old neighbor). Maybe he's being pulled back down. I know I was definitely matured enough when I was 12. Maybe not the fixing-pc type, but definitely matured in terms of girl-hunting type!
