We have a terrible graffiti problem here in Mexico. Kids seem to tag as they call it here, anything and everything. Well my home sits on the corner here. The wall has been tagged for years. Several weeks ago the city, came and painted it for me. Not the same color as the home.. but was better than the graffiti. They kids tagged it the same night. So my son decided to talk to the boys he knows do that kind of thing. He said to them, you guys really stress my mom out.. and she has always been good to all of you. He told them, she doesnt mind the pictures, its the bad words you post on the wall. So, yesterday my brother got the city to come paint it again. I woke up today... with the neatest tagging Ive ever seen in my life. Its a mural with marias place at the top. Yes its graffiti... but art graffiti. My mom would be proud to see it. She used to get so upset at what was painted there. Mom, we made you proud.........

your poop - poop
i am not down on thus graffiti tags but one day someone tags our street from other street, as i told to my friends, why thus other street tags our street and beside our street is clean which i mean no graffiti tags as we don't do that and our own street one night i call some of my friends and tell them i already have a spray can and lets bomb thus tag of other street which i mean re-tags thus graffiti and put sh!t to their tags so they will know our present and beside they have no rights to do that in our street as we don't do that too... after putting some sh!t graffiti to their graffiti they never do what they do before and leave our street.... we do that as i think they disrespect our street for putting some tags and stepping us, so we show them how to disrespect their tags by re-tagging it with a sh!t

I have seen some beautiful work done by these people. if they would just keep the nasty words out of it then it wouldn't be so bad. I know of towns that catches these kids and then they have to paint over what they did. Some people allow them to do their pictures which has turned out pretty neat. It sounds like your sons talk helped a bunch.

Amazing that your son was able to talk them out of putting dirty words there and actually put something your mom would be proud of. See? There was a reason your son came home to you. Everything happens for a reason thumbs up to Miguel!

BTW, we live in a city of a population of just under 250,000, in Ontario Canada We have 330 self-contained, fresh-wate lakes within the city. We have beautiful mountains and forests. What we don't have is one single mural in the city. Amazing or what?

Your son is amazing, great inner strength and logic to be able to confront without getting mugged. Hug him and tell him you appreciate what he has positively done. WTG Miguel!

What a pleasure it is to read this a few minures ago with my first cup of coffee. a lovely tale to be told but what impressed memost was your son. wise beyond his years adn possessing the skills of a diplomat. What a great teenager to go against the will of young people who gather together to carry out these acts of destruction. Enjoy your art! Enjoy your life and most of all enjoy your son for the man he is going to be one day.

thanks, Im so proud of him. Let me tell you something.. before he moved to the usa one time. He got the kids (street kids) together and told them.. to keep an eye out for me. Now these kids are tough, means kids. But do have hearts. i take a mature person like you said to think to do things like that. Im so proud of him.. :)

Your son did a very good think speaking up to them, and they in turn must have listened. I have seen some very nice graffiti art on train cars and in much larger cities. I like that they are being positive in what they are doing.

I grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA, and they used to have such a bad graffiti problem. But someone came up with a wonderful idea-to create large murals on the sides of buildings where it seemed that graffiti was particularly bad. And while they still have some problems, they also have some of the best artwork ever-and I don't believe that anyone has been caught tagging a mural! Here's a link to the program: http://muralarts.org/about/ that you might enjoy reading-perhaps even share it with your officials. Did you take a picture of the mural at your home?

I think in the beginning, they asked a lot of graffiti artists to come and help paint some of the earlier murals. They can also submit ideas too. I think that's why most of them have never been touched-and that's pretty impressive. Maybe if you pass on the idea to your local officials, they could start the same sort of program!

Until those powerful city council men and women decide to do somethings about these rebellious n lack of parental guidance street kids from defacing the city properties, i am not sure what can a private, law abiding citizen like me can do about it, if the building is belong to the city, they refuse to lock these street kids inside their jail, or hold their parent or providers responsible for their graffiti drawing all across the city and turn it into an eyesore for all the tourists and visitors, i can only shake my head in respond to those ugly drawing and vulgar words painted by these kids on the city's wall. If it is my property, those kids will be shot while attending to their little pranks inside my compound, i will not so nice to have a talk with them per se, that will be enough to send a clear and loud message to all those little gangsters.

If it is a public building, and the police don't care, then the kids know that it is not illegal for them to draw graffiti on them, they will continue to draw until the last day of their life. Obviously if it is your property, then you can call the police to handle them, if no action is taken after you file a complaint, then you have to decide whether to take the matter into your hand and get ready to confront them with a pistol and protect your own property or you can choose to do nothing and continue to let these little gangsters to step all over you. You are the only one that can decide what to do next if they continue to bother your property.

How old is your son? I thought he was only 14 or 15 right? He is a good son to be able to get all that accomplished. He has a bright future ahead of him when he can talk to the kids in the neighborhood to get this problem taken care of once and for all. I hate it when kids tag but if its a mural they are beautiful and I wouldn't mind that at all. I think it brings beauty to the neighborhood. I'm so happy that this problem got taken care of for you.

I would be fuming if someone painted my house like thaat. They can be charged here, and I wish they had the laws there. But it's good they did something nice like that, not putting bad words. My one job, you go in and they write horrible things all voer the wall. I think it comes back to the lack of parenting, and the personality of the kids. I know a few peole who would do this, and their parents lacked on parenting, and teaching them responsibility.

You should also be proud of your son for his actions, not many kids would do that for their mums. I don't personally like any graffiti, what surprises me is that these taggers will risk live and limb to get their art on the walls, including walking over railway tracks with live wires! You see it often when you are travelling by train that the walls that separate the lines from the land are smothered in tags and graffiti, however, I have yet to see bad words, it's usually their personalized tags. But it's still vandalism.

It is a pity the kids in Mexico create a lot of graffiti. I hate to see swear words written around a local community. Well done to your son for speaking nicely to these boys that have been doing that sort of thing. It is excellent that on your wall you now have art graffiti. I hope it stays that sweet and you can enjoy it for many happy years. Good luck.

Yes, it's really annoying when we see graffiti written and painted in fences built by city funds only to be tainted mostly with names of gang. What more if they were written in our fences, we try to make it neat and presentable only to be ruined by putting their group names. It's really an eyesore, I just hope our place would be like yours where the young changes it to art works.Your son really did a good job convincing those who did it.
