Here in India jewelry are made from gold, silver mainly; these are chosen because weather has less effect on them, some use platinum; it is the costliest metal. Here the cost of gold, silver and platinum is rising higher day by day

. [b]Due to this most shops sell jewelry which are basically silver, copper or their alloys these are plated with Rhodium using electroplating technique to make the metal brighter, they shine and look attractive.

[/b] Depending upon use the coating may last from 6 months to 10 years. Rhodium is an element belonging to noble metal’s group which also includes platinum. [b]Can anyone tell me, what is ‘white-gold’? [/b] Do you wear jewelry, of what metal they are made of? Please respond and share your views. Thanks in advance. Professor Dr. B.Saraf. PhD. Hi Prof...White gold is alloy of gold and other metals such as silver, nickel, platinum, and palladium. Such as yellow gold, white gold maybe 18,14,and 8 carat. White gold that saying white, actually gray, it needs to be treated by using a metal rhodium to make the color becomes whiter. It is my opinion, if I mistake, I am sorry, you can find better information from other member. Have a nice day...

Last year, I ordered a customized ring from your country. I wanted it in silver. But I was told that it is better to have silver and palladium to prevent from eventually turning black. Is that true at all? The ring turned our really beautiful, and the cost was actually higher because of the palladium.

Thanks for response , yeah gold jewelry of 22 carats have gold and copper, because of copper it becomes bit hard, shines well and less wear ant tear, in my state silvery jewelry is not worn , but in far north like Kasmir it is.

hi professor I used to live in South Dakota where there was a really wonderful jewelery called Black Hills Gold Jewelery.Really intricate designs of gold and white gold jewelry necklaces and rings,. really so very pretty and quite reasonably priced back then., I like a little fool when we were first married sold my

black hills gold jewelery a necklace and a ring, to a friend for maybe a fourth of what it was worth. Now the worth of those pieces would be ten times as much. It is is now very expensive and still really unusual designs and well worth its cost too.I looked them up on the web and the designs are truly magnificent

White gold is an alloy of gold. It has gold in it, but also other metals that give it an appearance similar to silver (without tarnishing).

When it comes to wearing gold, I actually prefer white gold. I'm not sure what it is actually, but I'm learning from the responses here. I do have some solid gold jewelries, but I don't wear them much and only having them for investment purposes.

White gold is common in Thailand and the Philippines. They are called white gold for reasons of there nature of being slightly white and shiny but there nature and mixture is just the same compared from those coming from other places. It is commonly used before in Religious artifacts.

This is a news for me as I really do not know the makes of jewelries

. For many times, I tried to buy gold jewelry but I do not know which ones have genuine gold and not

. As a result, I end up buying silver or plastic ones

How do i know if the jewelry is coated with platinum?

Thanks for response irene. No way to know, always buy from reputed shop in your place with a composition and warranty card, avoid on line purchase; if there is any gold smith who makes ornaments, get made for you, but many cheat, beware lol.

here in my country there are jewelry type who have plated with gold and even silver,sometimes they coated those fake one a silver color and sell it in the price of real silver,actually i love to wear jewelry but ring and bracelet only.

Jewelery has become an unhealthy craze,but I prefer plated Jewelery because they are less costly.Jewelery which are for fancy should never cost too much,as it is waste with no direct benefit.

Hi Prof ! White or any gold is very expensive in our place and if ever we have it we'll used for some important occasion or socialization. We can't used it for daily use because it is so attractive to the snatchers eyes. In our place so many snatchers roaming around , anytime and anyplace they are ready to invade. So one must go out without any jewelries to be very safe.

Thanks for response, you are right, chain snatching, ear ring snatching is so common here, when my wife or daughter in law travel by train they were necklace, ear ornaments that looks 100% plastic,no fear, but if they go mall etc in city they wear real stuff. For me i wear 2 gold rings each 15 grams with Yellow Sapphire and Red Coral on them, plus a thick 60 grams gold chain, some times i wear a gold bracelet in right wrist..

White gold is an alloy of gold or silver and other metals are sometimes used. Usually nickel is used in the mixture when making the white gold. White gold looks white or looks like silver. People like the looks of white gold and they like to buy jewelry that looks nice.
