Booking somewhere to stay and thinking about the price

I will be traveling around Eastern Europe in May and June this year with my 5 year old son and my 3 year old daughter. Today I booked 2 nights for us at a triple room in Lviv in the Ukraine. It has three beds and a shared bathroom. I booked it on-line. I am finding accommodation in Moldova more pricey. I think we will need 2 nights there due to the tiresome journey getting there from Lviv. Also we will be departing very early to get the train at 07.34 in the morning. I am having difficulty deciding where to stay. Then we hope to arrive in Odessa at 12.18. That will be a nice quick journey. I am yet to decide where we will stay there. In the past I looked at travel guide book listings and then phoned to ask for a room or bed. Nowadays people book their accommodation on-line. What do you think? Which sort of room and place do you like to stay at?

I would like to stay in a motel and have a small kitchenette and fridge. I would also like to have a double sized bed and have a tv. That is, if I do not have a friend who will put me up.

Having a small kitchenette can be excellent. In some of South America we had TV and it was in Spanish which I loved. My kids liked it since they were children's programs. Yes, it is lovely when you can stay with a friend. That is more comfortable than a motel.

Isn't it wonderful and comforting that all your plans are coming today, it sounds like you have a great itinery to work through whilst you are away. When I go away I like to book a room that has got a double bed, I only have a single bed at home, so it's nice to have a double as a treat, I do prefer to have my own bathroom and toilet too, you may have to pay more but it's not often you go away so you want a bit of luxury.

Hi Wolfie. Yes it is so comforting to see my plans coming out so well. I like to see ever such a lot in a three week time frame. I think it is lovely you choose somewhere to stay that has a double bed instead of the single size that you have at home. I like a low price so I don't mind having a shared bathroom. In Rio the three of us had to squeeze into two single beds. We were lucky to find anywhere to stay there due to another hotel letting us down.

I's god that you still get to do these kind of trips even with young children as some parents would not have the money to at all! I do liek private hotel rooms rather than shared facilities but, I think that is just because I feel uncomfortable having to share things liek the toilet with strangers! Lol x

I usually book hotel rooms through Agoda.com or Booking.com. Yes, there is a difference between the prices in the Lviv and Moldova. On Agoda I found some really cheap rooms in Lviv (between $10 and $14) and in Moldova the cheapest rooms I could find cost about $40. I still don't know if I will be able to go to Ukraine and Moldova this year, so I didn't make any reservations. I visited Agoda because I wanted to get an impression of the prices in those countries in order to make a budget for the trip. I have stayed in many different types of accomodation in the past - hostels, guesthouses, hotels, bed and breakfast etc. I don't have a lot of money, so I always try to find a cheap place to stay. Sometimes I stay in a hostel and sometimes I stay in a small hotel. I don't mind staying in the outskirts of the city if it is possible to use public transportation.
