It is nice to hear this stories about foreigners loving and appreciating our place while we locals do not see the beauty they see in our country. Well I guess its really a matter of taste that differs from these.

it maybe b'coz our focus is always been on the things that we dont have like snow, disneyland, universal record, great economy, having a foriegner wife/husband,go abroad etc. that's the reality. Filipina nowadays searching for thier partner on the internet hoping to meet someone WHITE. they think that if they marry a white guy all their problems will go away instantly.

In short, we have not gotten away with the "Colonial Mentality" we still have in our culture. We always see anything foreign as good and beautiful and think of ourselves as inferior ones. I hope that kind of mentality would be erased in out culture already since we are supposed to be free from colonial rule yet our thinking is always looking forward towards foreign things as superior and ours is inferior.

Haven't heard or even read that lovestory but sounds interesting. I am a proud Filipino, and Filipinos are good that's why American people want to marry a Filipino one. But to be honest we Filipinos just want to marry American citizen for we to be able to go in America and to be rich,, just being honest and I am just being frank :) Well, I didn't want to offend others. Have a good day. :)

Yeah, I did read this and it made me very proud. I work outside of the country too and it is true that Filipinos working overseas are very workaholic and not complain at all because they do this for their families back home. i am not supporting any family member and I do realize how huge the sacrifice by so many of us just to be able to give a good life to their loved ones in the Philippines.

hearing such compliment to someone who's most filipinos adored (w/c is american) because of thier status in life is very inspiring. now I have more reason to be proud of being a Pinoy. His letter also serve an eye opener for most people who want more in thier life. :)

Did too, such an inspiration! I guess Filipinos are naturally hard working. Given the hardest situations, the family bonds always clear out all abasement and working together makes the more difference. While others are encouraged to be independent upon adulthood, Filipinos are encouraged to stay home, work and contribute to the family while single (well, for most, even when married they are still obligated to contribute to the parents' welfare). This is why we strive to be better. And one thing I love about being a Filipino,, we are easily pleased! A pat on the shoulder from our boss, or a cake for our birthday from officemates, are enough rewards for us to do better.

A very touching letter indeed and the fact that it came from a foreigner, really is heartwarming as you have said it. He have lived and experienced our hospitality where he finds a home, his home away from home. I admired too what he had said about our OFW's being one myself before.
