Coach Mike Rice fired by Rutgers.

I was horrified viewing this footage from Rutgers basketball practices. I played for a lot of coaches and some of them were pretty intense but this guy is just an idiot. I'm surprised the players didn't refuse to play for him. I can't believe he had a coaching position in the first place. Have a look and tell me what you think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xM1O14nink0

I saw clips on television. I find it hard to believe that a grown man acted this way. I also find it reprehensible that the college tried to "rehabilitate" him when this video first came to light. This is certainly not the way to have a winning season I would think.

I think there needs to be a clean sweep of him and his coaching staff, then perhaps it will be a turnaround year for the players.

The clean sweep is definitely needed. Whether is leads to a turnaround year for the team is a hoped for byproduct. Do what's right first and try to build from there. I'm glad I never had the opportunity to play for a jerk like that. I probably would have walked away from the sport.

I have some trouble with the college trying to rehabilitate him first. That kind of smacks of the administration turning a blind eye to protect one of their own. I don't think it is a way to have a winning season. The players in practice look confused and browbeaten. They don't look motivated at all.

Rutgers did the right thing. A coach is supposed to encourage his players to do better, not to downgrade them and not to cause them to fight. Hockey being the exception, they are always hitting each other with sticks and tripping their opponents.

It was probably the public that complained. I bet some of them brought their kids along and they were embarrassed.

They finally did the right thing. Should have happened right when all this came to light to them. It probably would have been better for all parties involved if it hadn't had to go public first.

Like you, I'm surprised the players kept playing. I probably wouldn't have (not that I have ever played basketball!). There's a huge difference in coaching and abusing. I heard he said he was "sorry." Sometimes sorry doesn't get it, especially after he was fired.

I'm glad he's sorry and I'm sure there is room for forgiveness but he still has to take his medicine. I can't see how he can carry on as coach after viewing his abusive behaviour in practices. Players have to have respect for their coach and I just can't see that as being possible at this point.

Yes, I saw this today on espn mexico. He was bad. One player said the school new about this video along time ago, but did nothing about it.

I think the school should have dealt with this more decisively right way. Behaviour like that is just inexcusable.

They should have when it happened... Not now after it came out...
