Went to Barnes & Noble today

I had some time to kill in Athens before my appointment at the Apria Healthcare place to get my CPAP machine checked. I was looking at some books I was interested in. They were all so high. The one I wanted was Banished - Surviving My Years in the Westboro Baptist Church. It's a memoir. I opened the book to find the price and it was $25. There was no way I was paying that much. I turned on my eReader and connected to their open wifi but it would only let me buy from them. It didn't let me connect with my usual reader store. So when I returned home to my own wifi I bought the same book in electronic form for $12.99. I live to read and it is so convenient to buy and download my books to my eReader without ever leaving the house. But still it was good going inside B&N to see all the books they have. I prefer electronic books to the real bound books because I can adjust the font to the size I want. My eReader is a Sony and it's in black and white. The next one I get will be a Nook. I saw them today and they are as good as a tablet to watch movies, read or get online. Your thoughts?

Honestly, I think that I wasted my money to bought one of those eReader I bought from online, and I didn't use it that much. I remember the last time I used it simply for checking email, and browse the web which I can do on my desktop computer. Now, I lay it in a drawer just to collect dust. Although it was cheap, but I think that I wasted my money on it. Until I really have spare time to read, I might use it again.

I read about 5 or 6 books a month on my eReader. I buy them on it and they download into it. This one is not for watching movies or surfing the Net. You can get online but its not meant for easy use that way. A Nook would be a great improvement for me though.

I wonder if you would consider getting the iPad which may be a lot more expensive compared to Nook or Kindle but you can actually enjoying everything in one gadget. On eBooks, I think you will be happy to know that there are about more than 250,000 titles (and increasing) in iTunes which are free, along with other multimedia files like music and movies. Besides, I like their licensing where you can share your files with family members making it a worthy investment for it. At the end of the day, I think you need to work out a cost comparison to make up your mind.

I had not thought of an iPad. I don't think I can afford one of them. I had an eReader app on my iPhone before I got my eReader. I loved it. I bought my books. Didn't know anything was free in iTunes. Thanks for that.

I'm glad that you were able to find the book you wanted for about half the price. Aren't eReaders awesome? I prefer holding the real thing in my hands, books, preferably hardback books but I'd still take a paperback over an electronic book but there are some very good arguments for the eReaders, one of which is the cost of the books. The other is that you can hold so many books in such a small space. It really does free up shelf space (which comes in really handy when you're a maniacal crafter like I am, lol). I have a Nook and LOVE it! It has most features of a tablet so it can do so much more than just read books and magazines from. I take it with me to doctor's appointments, when picking up my son from work because he's sometimes late coming out, whenever I go somewhere where I know I'll have to wait awhile. It's smaller and lighter than most books so it's much more convenient to carry around. My Nook is what I used to connect to my myLot family when I was in the hospital last November, plus I had books to read to cut the boredom of being there. I have a few movies on it, too. It really is incredibly clear. I'm really surprised at how clear such small gadgets are these days! Yep, when you get the opportunity, get a Nook. Mine is a Nook Color and I absolutely adore it. The only thing it's missing, in my opinion, is a USB port. I have a portable DVD player that plugs into any USB port and I can't use it on my Nook. If I had that, I could watch any of my DVD's anywhere I wanted. If I ever get rich () I might look into buying a tablet. Until then, I'll be happy with my Nook. Enjoy your book!

I prefer to read from real books, but I suppose I will soon get a ereader as well. who knows I might like it too. I know that they can be much cheaper. Do you know how many books one can hold?

I don't know how many, but I have 19 so far. It can probably hold hundreds of books but I don't know for sure. I like my eReader better than real books. I adjust the font to the size that is comfortable fm for me to read. It's hard for me to hold books with my arthritis. Larger books give me fits. I have so many real books that I read and they just take up space. The eReader is perfect for me.

Which ereader do you have I was thinking if I made the jump I would get a kindle.

I thought B&N store were phased out due to ereaders. I guess not. I haven't been to a book store in forever.

The one in Athens is alive and well. They sell e readers too and have it where you can buy through them from home on the reader like I do with the company I use.

I often wonder now especially with tablets, nooks and kindles, etc why books are still so expensive when you can go online to different sites and get them usually a lot cheaper. I know I have downloaded books for free from time to time as well. I considered a kindle before getting my tablet but decided on my tablet because of size, and what I wanted to do with it. Since I do s lot of my posting in here like I am now, this was the best choice.

I wondered the same thing. I rarely buy real books anymore. I look up what I want at home and log on to the reader store in my Sony.

I occasionally visit the website of Barnes & Noble and browse their categories. I have gone through some of their books on select topics in the past. They are great publishers and distributors.

I think there's another such book, but written by a man... Maybe it was a different church, but the same idea. I don't remember his name or the name of the book, I just remember hearing an interview with him on the radio. (I listen to a lot of information radio.)

Though, come to think of it, "Lauren" sounds a lot like "Lorne" on the radio, and sometimes you can't tell if you're listening to a man or woman...

I prefer bound books. Looking at a screen for too long does wonky things to my eyes....

In glad my Sony eReader doesn't give me problems like that. The white part is more light gray and not like a computer screen. It's a godsend to me since I have pain in my hands a lot.

B&N is definitely overpriced. All new books are overpriced. I won't buy a new one unless I know it's good and it's not available used yet. I go on websites such as Thriftbooks and Amazon and get used books for cheap! I don't mind the wear marks or whatever. Most of their books, unless they are brand new and not in very much circulation are usually $3 or less - which is sweet! (Plus shipping). I haven't gotten a Kindle or eReader or Nook yet but that is on my to do list... Although how do you get over losing the feel of an actual, in-real-life book? (I love the smell of books, feel of them, borrowing them to friends, etc). Do you ever miss "in real life" books?

I love looking at Barnes and Noble, but their prices are ridiculous. I have noticed that their prices keep on going up and most of the time if I want to buy a book I but it at amazon because it is so much cheaper. I have heard of the Nook and am still deciding on whether if I want one or not.

I also find ebooks convenient plus, I'm able to download some epubs for free. But honestly, I still prefer real books. I have a weird habit of smelling books. I find comfort in them. Whenever I smell fresh new books, I feel like I'm being brought back to my happy place.

I do like books but I can't see to read them unless they are big print. I have a cataract in my left eye. I am just so spoiled with my eReader. It's so much cheaper too.

Please also shop at local used book stores. Instead of pouring money into a large corporation, you'd be supporting local people who are usually great, knowledgable book lovers whose dollars stay in the community. And even if they don't have the latest best sellers, they have thousands of books at a fraction of B&N's prices.

My daughter and I used to go into B&N a lot. I quit cause I found Amazon. I can get a lot of books for .99. If I don't have to get them right off of the bestseller list that is. I have no ereader. My next big purchase will be a new laptop. I have had this one since 2010, its a refurbished one and I am not happy with it at all. The Nook has come down in price and it is a good time to buy I would think. Maybe some day I will be able to catch up with the technological age.

Unfortunately I don't own an eReader, Nook, or any kind of tablet. My mother does though, and so do a few of my friends. When I had tried it, I honestly wasn't thrilled. I'm not a big fan of touch screen. It is cool though that you were able to get the book at a cheaper price. Honestly I'm not surprised the book in store cost $25, since the Westboro Baptist Church is so popular. With their anti-gay and anti-soldier protests, a lot of people aren't fond of them.
