I just read this from Facebook these few days, saying the msn messenger will be retired soon. I still remember after using iCQ, msn messenger was my favorite online chat messenger. I used to start my msn messenger every time I turn on my computer. But, my previous company banned us from using any messengers in the office, and hence I stopped using it even though I came home. Though I haven't been using it for a few years, I still miss the days I was using it to chat with friends. It's a good memory. I just knew Microsoft has purchased Skype, and I suppose those msn users will update to Skype. Now, I usually chat with friends in Facebook or Gmail. As I seldom chat online now, so I don't think I'll install Skype any time soon. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/messenger/home

I have read that I must change to Skype. But I don`t know how I will use it and I have only one day left to change msn to skype I wonder: do I just download and that`s it? Will I need some knowledge I don`t know?

I wouldn't worry about only having one day to switch, Skype is going to be around for some time if MSN has taken it over. I tend not to use MSN a lot so I'm not sure about the change, But I assume that kaka135 is accurate and that a link has been provided to make a swift and easy switchover with full step by step instructions. If you miss the change date, you would lose your contacts and it would take some time to build them back up again but Skype would still be there as a stand alone messenger.

I used to use MSN and messenger way back when. I usually chat with friends now on Facebook too. I have no reason to install Skype.

I am worried about what is happening with MSN. I was shocked to see my Hot Mail email has now changed to Outlook. I used to like using MSN chat with friends that live far away and I don't see very much due to the distance. I am not sure how to use Skype. I will have to chat instead on Face Book.

Microsoft has brought over Skype, so MSN messenger will be their messaging product. I suppose they made this move, because more people are using Skype, and it's a better product. I haven't been using my hotmail for very long time, I think they want to make the web mail as good as the Outlook? (Outlook is Microsoft's product too)

This is already not a new news. MSN already sent an email to each user to announce that. MSN will be available in China only. In other countries, MSN will merge with Skype. Frankly, I don't really appreciate to it.

I started using skype little over a year, and I think its awesome. The video chat really great. I have friends and family live overseas. I can see them through the video chat and it's really easy to use and it's free.

I didn't use skype until my business partner asked me to use skype to chat with him online. I realize nowadays skype is being used more commonly. My mum uses skype to voice chat with my aunt using iPad too, and I don't even know how to use that yet. I think it has become so easy to use, even for those who do not know how to use computers.

They should find some way to NOT make people download and install any software. It should be usable as is on the web. Few people will bother to download software on their computer. At most, they use the mobile version on their phones instead.

I used to use meebo sometimes, an online messaging site, where I can link my msn, yahoo, facebook, gmail accounts to it, because I didn't want to install any messaging programs in my office computer. But meebo is retired too.

yeah, I agree with you. I try not to spend time chatting online too, chatting is really time consuming. It's just that I still need to use the online chat for work sometimes.

Wow! I could remember ICQ but I never got hooked on that. I was hooked on yahoo chat. Then they stopped using yahoo chat this year (or was it last year). Now I hear MSN is closing as well. Whew! Those are memories there.. hehehe.. Right now I'm addicted to QQ and QT. It's a chinese-based messenger and chat where they teach and learn languages. It's similar interface with other chatrooms except it's way cooler. ehehe.. I do hope those are retained. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

I have an MSN messenger account but I have not logged onto it for quite some time. Part of the reason was that there was a time that I had access to Hello where I was also able to share screen shots and such with other people when I was talking to them and I liked that a whole lot better and then Hello was discontinued and I was not at all satisfied with MSN messenger. What I have to say that I sometimes really miss is the old days of group chats in a chat room. I do them occasionally on some of my scrapbooking websites, but it just isn't the same.

It really was a long time coming. It has been years since I logged onto MSN messenger, which I think turned into MSN live or some other name. Either way, people just use skype or facebook for online chatting now it seems, so there wasn't much reason to have this anymore. I do miss the days of logging on to chat with my friends though.

Well, I used to use MSN, but changed to skype a long long time ago. I used to use skype before, but then switched to MSN since many of my friends tended to use it. Though, to be humble I find MSN much more comfortable to use, sad for it to go away. Well, even though I use skype, I use it very very rarely, since I don't really like it. Instead I just chat with friends on steam, so this isn't a problem to me at all.
