I joined microwrokers today and at a task it says that i have to click on some ads, and it requires to give my IP adress. Is it safe to give my IP adress? Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is safe to give your IP address in these circumstances because it is used as a corroboration that you have completed the task. The site will have already recorded your IP address when you accessed it, so giving your IP address simply proves that your computer was the same one used to complete the task. Although your IP address generally uniquely identifies your computer (or rather, one or more computers connecting to the Internet at a unique location), it is not considered 'personal information' and your IP address is routinely recorded by most servers that you access. You can easily find your IP address from: http://findmyipaddress.com/ You should be careful about doing any tasks that require an IP address as confirmation if you are using a proxy server because the IP address that they will have recorded will NOT be the IP address which has been assigned to you by your ISP and a proxy server may sometimes use a number of different IP addresses when it forwards your request so the IP address seen by one site may not be the same as that seen by another at a different time.

That is a interesting site. You can even see where you live. They also sell software for battling the information wars. I would wonder about a person if they are hiding behind walls and smoke screens. Are they just being safe or are they hiding because there is something wrong with them?

I shiver with the thought of being watched by big brother but since I am not banking large sums of illegal cash (actually none) over the internet I doubt if anyone in the law enforcement area is looking for me. That leaves the other reason you gave for having a different ip and I think it is reasonable to want to see without restriction. I guess, it is like they started using cookies where interest in others took place for various reasons. It is a tool that can be used for good or evil and some might argue that the powers to be are just too powerful. Searching is really about what we are searching for I suppose.

I am not sire why this site does not know or does not get your ip address? I mean I am sure most websites should be able to get your ip address on their own. Maybe you can check and see first why would they need that ip address of yours.

I am not sure but I think most sites can see them anyways, if you look at a email and open it up you can see the IP address the email comes from.

Most people don't understand that.

A lot of people do not even know what an ip address is. Internet protocol is an address like a post office address or phone number is an address but it doesn't give out exact location just the city you are in. I don't think a lot of people care to know either how the internet works, they just want to use their computer and get on with it.

Yes that is true ip addresses are not private. What others are saying here is that they can be made more private if there is a good reason to do so.

I don't understand why they ask for your IP when they already have it.

That's easy. The task owner can see the IP addresses of the people completing the task but not their names or IDs. Asking people to enter their IP address means that he can check against the list of IP addresses and if he finds a match then he knows that person has completed the task.

MicroWorkers, the site, has it but the task creator (a visitor to the site) doesn't generally have access to that information.

I think it is good to give IP address to websites that you can trust and not to give to other websites.

Its not the IP address you should worry about, but the site you've joined.

Though in some cases I wonder why they need it (first case: they should already know it; second case: they couldn't even access the database of logged IP ), giving out your IP address is safe. I mean, no bad thing could happen to you just by you mention your own IP address..

I think it is a two way street. If they something about you, you should know something about them?

Getting your IP address is quite easy, One doesn't need to ask you for it. There are lots of ways of using your IP address to exploit you. They can use your IP address together with some commands like tracert, telnet or many other means to reach to you, Control your files, Steal passwords and valuable info, Etc. Happy mylotting!

I cannot understand why they are asking your IP address from you. As soon as you join the site, it is automatically recorded in their data.
