Every month, we end up short. Lately, it's been every payday we're short. I make budgets all the time-and everything works out. But then something happens-and we're overdrawn. I gave up everything-I sold my car, and gave the cash to buy a new one (in my boyfriends name). I used to go to the salon every two weeks to get my nails done-had to stop that years ago. I wear clothing that's threadbare. My boyfriend is always saying how he 'needs' a new pair of boots, another pair of jeans, or a new coat. I'm so down right now. I've been applying everywhere, only had 5 interviews since July, and no offers. Fast food jobs go to kids first, and I can't work in a hospital setting due to possible exposure to germs that my body can't fight off. I'm so down right now, and I can't think straight. My life is nearly as bad as it was in 2008-and the stress put me in the hospital. I really needed to vent. I know this should be a discussion, so I need help here. I have nothing left to sell, and nowhere to sell plasma-does anyone else have a suggestion to make money? My brain is shutting down. :(

Your only options should not be either fast food joints or hospitals. I'm not certain what you've trained in, but you surely must have skills that give you options beyond those two things. As for your boyfriend... Well, he's not helpful. He mistakes wants for needs and, quite honestly, doesn't treat you very well most of the time. My thought would be that this would be a good time for you to further your education. Enroll; go live in student housing. If you can fund it with scholarships, it would likely be a great move for you.

I have an Associates in photography-from the dark ages of film! I'm halfway through my Bachelors for Graphic Design-in print, not digital media. Both areas require constant updating of skills. I also worked as a secretary, last updated my skills in 2009, and I worked in a loss prevention field. All of those avenues are closed to me right now; I have more than $53,000 in student loan debt. I wanted to go back to school in accounting-I don't think 1 + 1 has changed much! I have multiple sclerosis, so I need a job I can sit most of the day. Not sure how I'd fund it when I've got that kind of debt load, but I did plan to speak to financial aid about my options.

You can still take out more student loans. You have a ways to go before you hit the ceiling. However, you should first look toward scholarships to try to fund part of that. I know that you need a job where you have the flexibility to sit as needed. Any office job would work in that regard. I don't know how things are in your area, but, around here, it seems like there are a lot of office jobs--positions looking for someone with previous office experience. Since you are studying graphic design, would it be possible to create your own business designing business materials? Or, perhaps, you could do freelance greeting card design. Or you could maybe put your skills to work to create art that you could sell at local flea markets, coffee shops, Etsy, etc.

Is there any Vocational Rehab organizations in PA? I know here - they'll help with tuition and such. Again, just a thought.

Without knowing your location it is hard to advise you. I know that you are in the US but some parts are better than others for employment history I presume you are looking for something that is legal and moral and that of course creates enormous problems. I am sure that something sleazy, like chatlines, are easily come by. But who knows who or what you will end up talking about. A friend walked herself around the smart end of town and found a cleaning job - $150 a week. Are there admin agencies that you could join? Sorry not to be more helpful.

pikey just thought when I was going back to college for the final two ears a nice Jamaican woman and I often met on the buses as she was a housekeeper for a professor at UCI university of CAl at Irvine. She was making at least 200 dollars a week and was a very happy camper too.so maybe our Scorpio- friend here might check at a nearby college or University as the teachers and professors use a lot of help in their homes and they do pay well too.

p1key- Let's just say I'm located near 3 smaller cities; I used to be near Philadelphia, PA. There aren't as many job opportunities here, and of those, they want one to be bilingual, and I'm not. It's been hard-I registered with a number of temp agencies, but none have called me back-I can't even find a phone number for them!

Hatley, I'd consider it, but the closest colleges are either community ones, or aren't in the best neighborhoods anymore.

I am so sorry to hear about your hard time! I know first hand what you are going thru. I just recently started working full time again about 2 months ago and im still struggling to pay down bills that were accumulated the 2 years I was out of work. I tried my best to make ends meet during the 2 years I did not work. I made crafts and sold them. I took a class and became a bartender at night for 2 nights a week. But nothing I did was getting me ahead. Not sure where you are located..but is there some kind of Career center in your area? That is how I finally landed a job..I went thru my local career center and applied. Good Luck and sending much good energy your way :) Stay strong friend...this too shall pass

I'm in the Lehigh Valley, about 70 miles from Philadelphia. I haven't been able to find full time work since I was laid off in December 2005! Working part time hasn't even begun to touch my bills, and now I'm being sued again. It's just so frustrating-I don't even know where the local employment center is, nor is my boyfriend available to help me find it. I feel like I'm back where I was when I was married-and that's not a good place. All I want is a simple job to help get me back on my feet-or for my boyfriend to wake up to the seriousness of our situation....

Scorpiobabes- What county are you in? I am willing to do the research for you and find out if and where there is a career center near you that may be able to help out with a job or possibly training in the field of your choice. Also timetravel is right....you sound like your getting depressed and that is never a good space - been there, done that- so you need to start putting you FIRST. His needs do NOT need to come before yours...especially when you are feeling so low. Cheer up- this too shall pass!

Even if you can only access the net through your smartphone, you can find out where these places are through the internet. Your boyfriend won't recognize how serious any of this is until it touches him. Next time he "needs" money for something new (that he doesn't really "need") tell him it's simply not there. Tell him the money was all sucked up with the monthly expenses.

hi as one scorpio to another now is the right time to not give money to your boyfriend but get him out woking too or kick him out to the curb. Yoou cannot wo k to support him and should not have too. get to a junior college and get them to give you a job skills test then using that go to your labor dept or your short term jobs place and apply there but not burger king s or hospitals,. often libraries have a hard time getting enough workers to shelve books so ask there too.a thought take a test to become a notary of public as this is a sitting job and pays pretty well. temp agencies often have some good openings that in a while might lead to a permanent job if they like your work.hope I have given you some leads here,I willp8ng excess weight like the boy friend.

@Scorpiobabes you really should look more into going to that local college. Call the financial aid officer and talk with them about using the financial aid from the government that you would qualify for. This would be a big thing for you I'm sure. And if you qualify you will get a certain amount of money and you can use that to help you get to college (gas, etc, and may even be able to use it to help pay your housing bills). Really look into that and ask a lot of questions because that could definitely be the answer you are looking for to a lot of your problems right now.

I don't know about PA but I know in Maryland they have affordable internet for those who are low income. What about food stamps - you should be eligible for those, I would think - esp. since you don't have an income.

I am so sorry scorpio. Trust me we have been there more times than I can count. It is really hard to say the least. My husband and I made the mistake of getting a title loan on our van when he got laid off. BIG mistake! Now we have payments of $500 on that alone per month and rent is $700, plus all of our other bills every month! We are no where near making it... Every month when the bills come in we pick and choose what we can and what we cannot pay. It sucks. Our rent is late right now by 10 days, don't know what we are going to do about that either... What can you do when the money is just not there?? We cannot give them money we do NOT have! I am really not sure what to tell you to do in your situation. I babysit but kids get sick easily and they pass it along so I doubt you could do that. I cannot think of anything else, what we do is sell everything we own when we get down like this... But if you have nothing left to sell you can't do that either. =( I'm sorry. I doubt this will make you feel any better, but I will be praying for you. I truly hope things get better for you soon!

Dominique-Since my boyfriend HAS to have meat, we're going to get a package of textured vegetable protein, and mix it with some ground beef to make sloppy joes. Have you considered that? I'm not a big vegetable eater, but my boyfriend is; I just have a lot of dental issues that prevent me from eating meat.

I agree with what you are saying. Sometimes it's like there is nothing else we can do but make those types of decisions because we just don't have the money. I too hope that something will improve their situation. Money is so hard to earn and yet it goes out so quickly with all the bills we have to pay. I hope that soon for you as well, that the big loan will be done so that you and your family can use that money for other things. I'm glad that you have your daycare business to help out.Just the other day our car broke down (after we had just lost that van) and the repairs to get it fixed cost $300. It's like oh my goodness can we all just get a break from everything taking all of our money. And not to mention the cost of groceries. I'm considering us becoming vegetarians. My daughter is not a big fan of meat anyway so it wouldn't be that difficult to switch and my husband is starting to agree with me.

Nothing is improving where I am I know that much. Things are getting MUCH worse by the day! And we are all feeling it, including the military. My brother can no longer go back to school because they cut that option for them and soon enough they are taking away their medical benefits too... Where is this improving? People are out of work everywhere you turn around! More and more people are filing unemployments and getting on food stamps!

Dear Scorpio, Please do not let your brain shut down. You are able to get on the internet because you are on mylot, therefore, you can search and check out where to find an Employment Centre near you. These places are very helpful to people who have not worked for some time. I don't live in the US but here in Canada we have a site called Kijiji, there one can find gigs such as employment for a day as in special events, or seasonal events, for example in toy stores and garden centres to get ready for Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving. It is cash payments, but even $60 on a day here and there helps to pay down an old bill. However, I sense the real drag on your finances and the thing that underminses your morale is your boyfriend. You talk of him wanting new boots, etc. etc. If there is a shortage in the budget simply do not buy new stuff. There is the Salvation Army, Goodwill and other organizations where you can get clothes for next to nothing, just to tie you over until the budget balances. You can also check the classifieds for housekeeping, dog or pet sitting, garden work and volunteer work. It is too bad you gave up your own car. You have to find a solution to regain your independence. Reputable employment agencies for temp work definitely have a phone number. Just check it out, research it. Since you are not employed on a regular basis are you cooking from scratch?? You can save a ton of money that way. For example I made a huge kettle of pea soup yesterday that cost $4.00 for the ingredients, and is enough for 4 meals. I freeze two meals in freezer baggies (I only have a fridg with a small freezer space) To compensate for lack of freezer space I lay them flat. That way I can store many bags. I only buy the specials in veggies and that is what we have as a side dish that week. For example last week broccoli was on special for 87 cents. I bought two bunches. I use one in stir fry, the other steamed and dressed with vinegar and oil in a pasta salad. It makes a delicious and cheap lunch that is also healthy. Volunteering is another good way to save a few dollars. Many places either provide bus fare and or a free meal for their volunteers or they are a valuable pipeline to possible short term employment and information where to get help for various problems. Do not despair, seriously think about the boyfriend problem and start a strategy to become independent as a strong vibrant woman. You can do it!!

I'm on myLot through my phone; our computer isn't working, and my résumé is on it. I found an old copy of it, and was able to print five copies of it at a friends home. Most places want you to apply online; I'm on my iPhone and its hard to type on it (touch screen)-I was filling out an application for seasonal employment a few days back, and was filling out the assessment test. But the final (and possibly most important) question wasn't answered because of my problems operating my phone. The local employment office for my county is at least a half hour away; the closest is the wrong county. And due to my having multiple sclerosis, I can't work as a dog walker due to gait problems; I had to give up my last job because it was too physically demanding for me and that would eliminate any physical jobs. I cook from scratch-I made a simple Reuben dog casserole; my boyfriend suggested adding chunks of bread to make it more filling. I am also making chicken and dumplings right now for tomorrow night. The only premade food that I've bought are things like cereal, bread, and ingredients that are part of a meal, like pre-made pie filling that's part of a cheesecake recipe. I've bought clothes at Goodwill before, but here, the clothing tends to be quite worn out by the time they receive it. So we are watching the sales; he gets a discount at Walmart, but I don't like shopping for my clothes there.

Having limited internet access is part of what is holding you back. How close are you to a public library? Many of them will allow you to sign up for an hour at a time to use computers. You can request more time if no one is waiting. You need a lawyer to help you file for disability. There are two kinds of disability. I believe what you were denied on is SSDI which is based on what you have earned in your lifetime. SSI or Supplemental Security Income is for people who are disabled physically or mentally. You do need to find a lawyer who works on contingency and have a free consultation. They will not take you on as a client unless they think they can win. If you can get to the library or some other place to use a computer sign up for Textbroker. You will submit a writing sample and get evaluated and given a ranking from 2-5. Once you are ranked you can select articles to write, they are approved within 96 hours and the funds are transferred to your account. You would be at least a three, I am a three. You may be a four. Three earns a penny per word up to the amount the client selects. Once you have ten dollars you can request payout to Pay Pal. I do not spend tons of time there, but I average more than ten dollars a week. I could do more, but I get distracted. I want to do other things sometimes. I work more than forty hours a week outside the home. I did enough articles to earn thirteen dollars last night. I will get paid for them next Friday. I got over twenty one dollars this Friday.

i know of some ways that you can make a few extra dollars on line. just like in mylot. i was in the same position as you before i got my disability. i was making money online, but not enough to live on yet. one thing i found out through that journey. is that you have to have more than one way to hustle up money. none of them have to be illegal. it was around that hard financial time that i started my jewelery business with my little girl. that also pulled us some extra money. but, it seems like your health is also in question. have you thought about filing for disability?

I'm not sure how I could earn anything online-I'm not sure I'm talented enough to make jewelry. But I'm willing to try it-I've never made any before, so I'm not sure where to start. Currently the computer is offline due to technical issues, and I can only access the Internet through my iPhone-and I can't access flash sites. I don't have a doctor right now, though I'm considering filing again. I was denied because I didn't have enough work credits; I learned of that decision after I was released from the hospital due to a relapse. I went back to work-that was in September 2008.

If you were denied disability benefits once - contact one of those attorneys who deal with getting disability for people, and who work on a contingency basis. They only get paid when you get disability. They get paid from the lump sum payment you receive - because benefits start from day 1 of applying.

Try Fiverr.com. Post a video up, be creative. I've made tons of money from it(much more than a supplemental income with it) and i've barely put much time into it. Also recommend product demonstration jobs(I could message you in a PM if need-be). Aka. Those people that do sampling and such. They hire pretty much everyone. All you do is hand out food in stores and in most cases pay starts at $10+ an hour. Old blog i used to run may have some still viable options. http://howtomakemoneyonlinefreelancejobsinfo.blogspot.com/ I also recommend reviewstream.com(pays about $3 a review, but it can add up.) http://easyoutsource.com/ is also somewhere I would recommend. Although you won't get very high-paying jobs(as they try to focus on outsourcing there), you can pick up some extra work and every little bit helps. You can also try to bid for jobs at like elance and freelancer.com, etc. Just a few things to check out if you haven't already. Best of luck.

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. These economic times are really hard on a lot of us. I wish there was something else you could do. Have you tried applying for food stamps, or cash assistance, or something of that sort? Check your local area for food pantries and try to go to each one once a month. That should cut your grocery shopping list down. What about free clothing stores by churches or where they sell clothes very cheap. You could also look into making basic body wash, toothpaste, and the like from very simple ingredients that can make those types of items stretch. You could plant some vegetables inside in basic containers from the dollar store. I wish money was easier to come by but I'm sure that all the things you could possibly do to earn more money you are already doing or have tried. So now it's thinking of ways to stretch your the money you have coming and lower the amount you have going out.
